Hi all, looking for some clarity on this please, as it started off fairly straight forward then got very technical?! ? if I am swapping out my std SW for a MFSW and keeping same airbag why would I need a new airbag loom, part number 3C8 971 584F?
My van is a 2011 Kombi so assume the BCM will be ok?
So apart from the repair wires (and possibly the air bag loom) and the coding etc, what else in terms of wiring/parts would I need to do the job?
Thanks in advance for any help all ??

New MK7 R wheel with paddle shift working with a Pioneer SPH-120 head unit.
Fitted by Matt at T5 upgrades.
Thanks to Absolute Audio for the loom and phone support, they told me to disconnect the VW bluetooth and that solved the phone function problem

Hi talogon,
I’m dragging up an old thread here but your comments re the wheel struck a chord! I recently fitted the buttons to my wheel and interfaced to my pioneer F88dab. Everything works apart from the phone buttons. I thought this was because I’ve got an aftermarket head unit but your post has me thinking...any tips greatly appreciatedT: it’s a 2012 caravelle by the way.

Hi thanks to all with links and guides to help with the mfsw swap. Worked a treat and I’m really happy with my new setup, and a very low financial outlay too.

I also upgraded my stereo and now have rcd 330 dab but just 2 small teething issues, I’m getting interference from the aux input on front of new stereo, and my old aux (glove box) is no longer working.

Any advice on either pleas?.

Absolute Audio told me to take out the original bluetooth unit, made senses two can not work together.
You need to remove the glovebox and I then left my bluetooth unit in and just unplugged the connecter.
Once you have the glovebox out it is easy to find under the insulation.
Hope this sorts it for you.

Hi Brian,

Thank you. Just to be absolutely clear here - I can connect my iPhone via Bluetooth to the pioneer F88 and make/answer calls no problem. The issue is the phone buttons on the mfsw don’t do anything. The van had a basic vw cd/radio fitted when I bought it, I don’t think it had any Bluetooth functions? I’ll pull the glovebox out and have a good look anyway. Here’s hoping?
Thanks for the tip.

Hi,

My original T5.1 (2012) plastic steering wheel is heavily worn, so i purchased a cheap leather one off ebay that had broken switches. I don't care about having working switches as I have an after market head unit and aftermarket cruise control already on a stalk.
I had (wrongly) thought I'd be able to transfer the blanks from my plastic steering wheel onto the leather steering wheel, but as I've since read here the blank is moulded onto the frame of the wheel. I read that some leather wheels actually come with blanks and no buttons. I think i must not be looking using the right name or terminology for them as i can't find them. Does anyone know where i can buy the blanks from? or have a part number for them?
Thanks

I have a leather wheel with blanks that I am planning to add buttons to. If your still after blanks when i take them off I’d be happy to sell. Might be a few months tho as I’m looking to buy an OBeleven device as well

I have read all 15 pages and am a little better off and decided that coding is a little beyond me, i will get someone that knows what they are doing to sort that. I have a 2010 shuttle that iam converting and would like a mfsw. My rh stalk currently has mfd buttons, i want cruise control retro fitting to. So am thinking the way forward is to purchase new stalks for cruise without mfd buttons and buy an mfsw. I will use mfsw to control after market steering wheel

The bit i am struggling with is what mfsw should i be looking for many on ebay say t5.1 but is there a way to be sure? Also if i buy one without airbag will my current airbag fit?

Many thanks

Matt

Read all 8 pages numerous times before deciding to have a crack at this. Also followed a picture by picture guide that was very helpful linked from earlier posters.

one thing I’m ignorant on is when people say “coding” to activate the mfsw and mfd. Does this mean vcds only or does it also include some of the plug and play “lite” coding tools like Carista?

I've never tried to do it with Carista and unfortunately I no longer have it on my phone, but it's quite likely that you can't, because it's not just a matter of setting one flag in one place. But the real way to know is to try it! It's not particularly expensive (compared to VCDS) so it may be worth a try, if someone doesn't pop up here and say they already have.

When I tried Carista I was quite impressed because some of the coding options were (at the time, a couple of years ago) documented better than they are in VCDS. IIRC, "needle sweep" was trivial in Carista at the time, and not via any other means (though I fully accept that "needle sweep" is not really a useful mod to be able to make!).

Completely aside, any idea how you do activate needle sweep on a T5.1 2010 start line? Never seen it on VCDS.

Well I’ve been faffing for a while with Carista (already had it as I own a Skoda and an MG and it works on both) and despite setting the MFD it’s not doing a thing.

I’ve got the live and lin bus wires in, the new loom and wheel on.

The steering wheel wheel lights up when the lights are on which shows something is working but neither set of buttons (stereo on left and mfd on right) work. The horn doesn’t work either but there’s no airbag warning.

I think I’ll have a play with the wheel, connections and loom first.

It's several years since I did it so I can't remember a thing about the details, but I'm certain that there was a thread about it here at the time. So a forum search will find it, I'm sure.
