Hi guys

Im looking for a 16 reg t6 to convert to a campervan, id really like the 140 engine with the 6 speed box, a t32 has came up but ive a couple of queries compared to a t30. Ive seen posts about a t32 being a bit of a harder ride on the suspension, any opinions on that??? Ill be doing a full conversion with pop top, rock and roll etc. Also does going to the t32 cause any issues with lowering or fitting alloys and load rated tyres???

Thanks

T32 front suspension is different to every other van in the range, so if you’re going for coil overs you’ll have to make sure you’re buying the right sort.

T32 min load rated tyres need to be 103.

Same goes for alloys, you’ll need a higher load rating because the axle weights are higher.

Don’t know anything about stock suspension, sorry.

I had a T30 t5.1 lwb before my current T32 t6 lwb kombi.

The T30 was more forgiving ride wise, however fully loaded made her bum low.

The T32 is definitely harder ride. However with some lower tyre pressure than how it arrived with me. The rear load space filled with my daily work equipment. It rides lovely. It’s bum does not sag with loading and it looks sensible.

Not able to answer your wheels or suspension questions as they have both been used on standard set up and wheels.
Hopefully this is of some use?

Gotcha.

As far as the rules go, I think it’s based on v5 weights not what’s feasible to carry and thats what drives the whole load rated discussion. In principle you’re right but people’s concern is that even if you’re not carrying the weight you’re still not legal if you’re using underrated parts for the max weight.

Interestingly Shuttles all used to be based on T30, but now T6 Shuttles are all T32! People are getting heavier on average. The vehicle seats 8 and if they are 100 kg each that's 800 kg before luggage.

My T32 is 2106Kg unladen with fuel (according to VW spec) that leaves me over 1 tonne payload. Assuming similar unladen weight with a T30 then you loose 200 kg payload. This summer I had my van on a weigh bridge when fully loaded for camping trip and it was only 2470 kg so I still had over 700 kg available (admittedly my passenger was out taking the photo but she is less than 60 kg)

I agree an unloaded T32 does ride a bit too firm and can be harsh, but it is also nice sometimes to have the payload.

Try to find out what a loaded T5 camper with fuel, water, passengers (bikes on the back if that's your thing) weighs.

Remember you can down-rate a T32 but not easily up-rate a T30 without mechanical work.

T32 requires different MOT as well.
