Just fitted a re-con head. Runs very well. But 3 times i have started it , when warm, and it sounds like one of the tappets isn't primed, its makes a ticking just like a tappet. It has always gone away eventually after a few mins, or by starting and stopping the engine a few times.

Any ideas on this please. It seems strange that it goes away all of a sudden and runs smooth. Could the tappet have air trapped in it ?

Thanks

It was all in the timing. That timing mark on the pump housing is a fair way out of the final setting!

Managed to set the timing with a digital vernier in the timing port as i dont have a DTI.

Started straight up!!

Does this sound like a sticking tappet? I worked out simply that at 800 rpm, thats 6.66 rev/sec of the cam shaft, and the noise appears to be at this frequency.

Having not heard a sticking tappet myself, can anyone comment. Notice that it stops after a minute ( this is a cold engine ).

Cheers
