Coming back from Tesco i noticed a loud clicking / tapping noise in line with revs ( put the clutch in to test) . Got home as im 5 minutes away and now she wont start and is loud as hell.

A couple months ago I had all the injectors done, and timing etc, she was running like a dream. So Far I Have:

- Tested the glow plugs
- Had all the injectors tested
- Turned her by hand and all the valves appear to lift and reseat.
- none of the pulleys seam damaged, belt seems tight.

Any Ideas what I should do look at next? What would cause the tapping? and how is it related to poor start? fuel pump perhaps?

I also had a occasional large clunk which i put down to a cv joint or engine mount which i needed to fix but if dont think thsi si related.

Thanks in advance.

For anyone else with a similar problem:

I found the issue to be the dreaded 1.9td crank pulley. the stretch bolt had worked loose and running the engine destroyed the key on the back of the pulley / gear causing the timing to slip. very lucky to make it home :D

Going to go for the dowel mod as found here: http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/topic31849&KW=_post240162.html#240162

Does anyone know a good engineering place near Exeter i can get the dowels made up etc?

Cheers

Dave
