A little help required please. The Van has had a front ender and it caused the timing to be knocked out therefore bent a valve smashed lifters and also did a lot of damage to the head.

After a new head and a rebuild. It's mostly back together now it's just a case of timing the engine and diesel pump.

It seems there are no timing marks.

If I got the engine to TDC where would the cam have to be?

Or is there a special tool?

Help is appreciated.

Jamie.

So basically it doesn't matter how the belt goes on the diesel pump?
Yes it does mate there is an arrow on the pump casting and a square punch mark on the inner pump pulley. (non shiny inner part)
This will get the van running until you get it on vag com to set it more accurately.
The cam has a slot in the gearbox end this will need setting against the cylinder head with a setting tool. Or use metal plate and feeler gauges because the slot needs to be equally level to the cylinder head.
For TDC on the crank Check the timing mark through the hole in the gearbox on top of the flywheel edge against the arrow in the casting hole (Rubber bung in top of gearbox) .
