I have a 2011, 2.0 140 T5.1 with only 24k on the engine.... I'm finding ever since I've had it (June this yr) it has had little or NO boost, I have never heard the turbo or even felt it. What has prompted me to write to ask is yesterday I was given a lift by my brother in his new shiney (LHD/French) T6 California, now whilst I know it has a slightly different engine (150ps) it goes like a rocket in comparison to my old van... Now I'm pretty sure I can say the problem is boost related ? I think I have a boost leak as when you pull away you get what I can only describe as a sort of pop feel or mis fire feel just as you pull away and there is no real boost (or feeling of) I have done a visual check around the engine bay etc and cannot see any loose or ill fitting pipes. I also have a 2.0 140PD Skoda Octavia and the drive difference is like getting out of a 500cc fiat (van) and into a 3lt sports car (Skoda), now granted the Skoda is remapped to a little higher than standard but the difference in pulling power is massive, like huge ! I'm located in Bristol and would be interested to find someone local OR within reasonable distance that would have the knowledge and experience to diagnose this issue more thoroughly. Whilst I'm pretty ok with engines etc or at least used to be my body will not permit me to be getting under or over the engine to check the turbo etc nowadays (I'm registered disabled).

My personal experience of a van with exactly the same engine is that typically you won't hear the turbo at all when it's working normally.

Probably the easiest next step would be to have the engine codes read, as you should be getting fault codes logged if the turbo is providing less boost than the engine management is requesting. You will need someone with a VAG-specific diagnostic tool (as opposed to a generic code reader) to do this properly.

I would think one of the local Pendle agents such as Detailed Performance should be able to help you (but I should add I have not used that company myself).

Thanks for the advise and info, I have VCDS (ver12.12) and have scanned but NO codes related to anything engine related.
I appreciate a van is alot heavier than an estate 4x4 car but thought the pull would have been alot more than it is considering its the same capacity engine and basic BHP... having said all this I never rev it much more than 2.5K and have never really gone over 3.5k ever so maybe thats the issue ? I just find those kind of revs are not required for around town friving and motorway is again normally below 3k even at 70+, I am getting around 42mpg empty and around 30mpg towing our caravan so it is VERY economical for a van and from what I can gather is on target for mpg or at least very close to it.

Am I right in thinking its a VNT type turbo on the CAAC engine ???? if its NOT then maybe I am expecting to much from it.

I guess I could monitor the engine / turbo pressures / vacuum's etc via vcds, I'd have to read up and find out which blocks to monitor, but then I could post the results and hopefully peeps would give some advice on if they are high or low etc.

Just a small update with regard to this issue, I was tinkering today and whilst under the bonnet doing some housekeeping, oil and water levels etc etc. I remembered I had a turbo boost valve sat on the shelf in my garage from an older 2.0 PD I used to have, I thought no harm in sticking it on to see if it makes a difference and yes it did ! I would not say it was a mega difference but enough to notice straight away or at least within a few hundred yards of pulling away. Tomorrow I'm going to have a good look around the pipes which fit on to check for splits etc etc just in case I missed something obvious in my excitement to change the valve.
