Hi everyone!

I've converted my D5W to a cheap semi parking heater to warm up only the engine. This sytem is using the factory fitted coolant afterrun pump to circulate the coolant and the heater fan goes only when the ignition is on. It's enough for me because when the engine started the fan blows out my head with warm air. Yes, warming to sufficient temperature takes more than 20 min. depends on aux temperature. I've installed a cell phone based controller with a switch in the dash for remote and manual start/stop. I'm using a tiny Android call scheduler app to start the heater before my alarm clock ring. While shopping pressed the button to keep on the engine temperature.
I use to camp only in summer but I start with warm engine all year. :)

Which one did you go for?

Busy this evening trying to sorce this Volvo vacuum valve, but unsure on which car or age so i can to cut out warming the engine when parked.

Does the engine need warming in the uk, other then for warmth in the cab.
In Germany it gets a lot colder the the uk.

I use the 'Call Schedule' (it's logo is a rainbow rounded desk phone), 'cause it was the only so useful app. The full version costs a bit more than £1. My son promised me will develop a custom app if he has more time...

I think I am missing sometthink sparkhunter it looks like just a dairy.
Is there a modem like switch thats part of the set up.
Ive seen a Blue tooth engine starter kit advertised on on my search so saved as favorite to look and understand more later.

Yes, you need a GSM controller. Mine is a home made gadget but there is more types available in the market, for example this. I don't know if this is the best choice (it has no manual control input) but it could work. You can find the keywords for further searching.

I don't really see the point of going to a lot of trouble and effort to convert all the various pipes, pumps, valves, wiring and aux battery when this type of heater was never designed to run for more than 30 minutes at a time, you can just buy a second hand airtronic which will run all night and all day if needs be and is totally programmable its a bit like fitting a Ferrari engine in a wheel barrow why would you bother ? when there are far better alternatives that were actually designed to serve the exact purpose you are trying to achieve

drmagpie has gone to a whole lot of trouble to give you all the information that you need to realise there's much better ways to heat your van :*

I have one of these on my LHD German van, it helps cold start no end, I find programming it to come on for 15-20 mins before I want to drive is good for any winter temp, minus 20 is the lowest I have seen on the dash before driving.

When driving, it stays on with the air temp at 4 degrees or lower until the engine temp is up.

To use it to heat the interior it needs to be on for at least 20 mins (as was said above,) leave it on for a while longer and it starts to get toasty hot inside and any windscreen ice and snow is sliding off nicely.

The down side is that it uses starter motor battery power to power the fans when heating the interior, they guy I bought the van off warned me to not use it more than 5-6 times on a really cold night if I wanted to still be sure of starting the van in the morning. It will stay on for 1 hour at a time when you turn in on manually but I have never tested it to the limits I was told about, these might be wrong??

There is only a little visible smoke/condensation comes from the system. It is the noise you notice when it turns on, there is a pleasing low level roar.

Can anyone tell me if U run an external ECU on these?
I am fiddeling about with a D7W.... & I am struggeling abit...:(
I have the Eberspächer 25 1599 50 00 00 ECU for reference. There seems to be a relay (20/30A) intended to feed&run an extra fan.... Still working through online catalogues & manuals online
The Eber came out of a Merc W124 that I broke for parts a few years ago. Unfortunately I wasn`t the only one ripping the W124 into bits..I: Thereby loosing some parts & info:rolleyes:

Just last week I heard or ebay deals going sour.
Mercedes and Volkswagen on referent signals analog to Digital.
Can be a very expensive nightmare.

The ecu on my d3wz is incased in resin one top of the unit.
