Iaw forum rules, This is not a post designed to berate bristoltransporters.com
This is a post to STATE THE ACTAUL FACTS. about my very poor and disgusting treatment by a so called trader in The VW conversion world..who incidentally I have never even met..
Oct 2nd. After much discussing and emailing a design, ÂŁ1250 sent via bank transfer. 2-3 weeks for manufacture and delivery...
Basically nothing has happened since ( throughout the whole period since placing the order, to date the owner has been virtually impossible to communicate with via all means. Email / phone / text..) advised 21st October via email, that a few issues had been encountered and it was being made next week!!! Mid Nov, managed to get hold of the owner by phone by hiding my contact details. He now advised that it was made and was ready for shipping. Just need a fridge fitting.. But he advised his supplier was out of stock.!! .( quote: 'I am leaning on it right now in the workshop.its ready to go..') then nothing. ( I researched uk stock of all suitable fridges, and found every type avail, for uk next day delivery...Jacksons leisure was an ideal supplier )..beginning Dec, was told IT WASNT ACTUALLY MADE AT ALL, and I would have to be given a refund...to date ....when I questioned this, and his previous quote he said he was mistaken about which pod was mine.. 22nd Dec still nothing, and no refund... He will not even talk to me on the phone, and I am now taking legal proceedings to try and retrieve my ÂŁ1250....disgusting....

*****DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.*****

Any further info reqd pm me....
When I have looked into his history even more, I have now found some of his items he sold on eBay have NOT been delivered and the purchasers have had to use eBay legal trading rules to get their money back.... These people do not deserve to trade or be in business....

Whilst, like most people reading this tale of yet another Scammer, am disgusted by the relayed details, cannot for the life of me understand why yet anther person is prepared to part with a large sum of money up front before having any work done, and more surprisingly, never having met them. :*

How many times has been seen on this Forum, tales of people parting with money for a VAN they have never seen, let alone for work not started or completed....I have real sympathy for the OP who is unlikely to get any of his money back or any satisfaction from this company, but as has been said so many times, any reputable company will never ask for money before work has been done.

I dont really know what to make of your response...??
If you think I am sat here doing nothing, then you really are quite misguided....(you dont post your whole life story on this forum do you..?? )
Fortunately for me there are some people on this forum here who really have actually been more than helpful...!!!
This issue is not resolved yet nor gone away, but it will be, trust me.
Thanks for all your help with this matter...it really is very much appreciated.
cheers

I would guess you are referring to post 10, and his 'heavy handed' answer to your problem....i suppose he like others on this site, get frustrated by all the tales of people willing to part with money before getting any work done or actually meeting those doing the work[or notI:]

While I am no advocate of the action he mentions, some see it as the only way of dealing with these sort of 'Scammers' who have no conscience about taking the hard earned cash of others...I hope you get some sort of resolution to this case.

Under Section 75, if you pay by credit card, the credit card company are severally liable as well and you can claim the money back by invoking Section 75..

But, you may not know that some Visa Debit cards are also like this so if you transferred the money by phone, using a VISA Debit card, you may also be protected.

If you did it by on-line banking, then the banks just say that it is your own fault and won't help..

Hi there

I just got a ÂŁ1500 CCJ against Matthew Scanlan t/as Bristol Transporters for some dodgy work he did on my T5 in 2015. He didn't show up for the hearing on Jan 13 so it went against him. I haven't heard from him and the deadline for payment has expired so I'm on his case too. Seems like there's a queue for this guy.

I passed by his workshop and indeed it seems he's scooted. He moved into the a small flat above the workshop in early 2015 and worked solidly there until recently. He used to live in Sea Mills before that but that was with his partner, who I believe he separated from. I don't know the address but I know which house it is and may well give her a visit to get more info and see if his van's there.

Other than that I'm not sure what to do but will post any helpful developments as I go along.

Anyone reading this before having some work done please don't confuse the shark Matthew Scanlan / Bristol Transporters with a great bunch of lads at www.thebristolcampercompany.co.uk I would highly recommend them and wish I'd known about them before I went to Scanlan. God even his surname sounds dodgy - Scanlan the scammer!

Thanks Cl51ffe
much appreciated...
It just shows you that you can head out onto what seems like a great adventure, you know, new van and all the enthusiasm that goes with it etc, only to get bitten in the ar5e along the way...
Thanks to the forum though received some great advice and found others that were in the same boat...doesn't make you feel as bad...!!
And you can warn others of potential pitfalls.
So thanks to some of the guys on here for that, for their words of wisdom..
cheers for now.
Al..

Dear van blanc
His website was very informative.
He was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable on the phone...he modified his designs to meet my requirements...
I wanted a pod, not full length furniture... I needed the back of the van free with the Rock and roll bed out...
The reason for the pod was also the removability factor, leaving me to fit it into another van easily...
I took some of his pictures to other converters in Sheffield, who admitted they couldn't do a job that good for the same money and detail....they advised I was better going with him and paying for delivery...
I thought he was genuine....he had also sold some pods on eBay, with positive feedback.
It was only when things started to Go wrong and I really did dome serious digging, that I started to realise that in other instances with some other people the wheels had come off....
I will not make this mistake again....
I am jot the only one to fall foul of his practices... There are others...
Cheers got inquiring.
Al

Blimey, just stumbled across this thread as was searching the web for the guy who built and installed the units in my van about 3years ago. Yep, it was Matt Scanlan of Bristol Transporters. Sorry to hear about this debacle but all I can say is that I visited him before he did any work and before I made any payment. I had a good look at his demo van and saw the quality of his work. I’m not associated with him in anyway and haven’t seen or had any contact with him since but He did a brilliant job on my van - his work is some of the best I’ve seen.i was searching for him as I was thinking about getting a pop top fitted and I knew he was a Reimo fitter.

I guess he must have had some issues but when I had my van done he didn’t seem to have enough hours in the day to get through the work he had lined up. I went to his workshop several times and was and still am very happy with the work he did.

Shame it doesn’t appear to be the case for everyone.

Its often the way with these guys.....
Had a similar experience with Lazy Leisure Campers of Sheffield...first few meets were top...
Then the guy turned out to be a complete shister in the end.... And now i've looked around a lot. I don't rate his products either. but he's always busy when I drive past....
only concellation for me is I now know better...

Same for Matt Scanlan.....avoid avoid avoid.....!!!
