We've decided to embark on a little late season adventure and booked the overnight Portsmouth - Le Harve ferry. Beyond that we have no obvious plans other than to spend most night stopping in aires or camping municipals whilst traveling about

So, what is there to do in Brittany? or do we just spent the week drinking wine?

I'm sure a little road report will follow.....

Hi guys.

For the week we are going we paid £108 for the Portsmouth to Le Harve, then paid an extra £30 to amend the booking after Oktoberfest was cancelled. We're on the overnight boat on Saturday leaving Portsmouth at 23:00 arriving in France at 8am. We are then returning the following Sunday at 5pm French time, arriving back in Portsmouth at 21:30.

If we went from Plymouth we'd be looking at paying £350+. For us its a no brainer.

That's cheap. When I compared Brittany Ferries and LD Lines there was little in it for me. Maybe the longer stay made a difference.

Quiberon great for surf, few good restaurants and bars on the front - nice spa on the hotel further along the peninsula for a bit of wife pampering..

Carnac Plage is a nice little town with some good restaurants, along the coast is Trinite-sur-Mer, cracking restaurant on the hill on your right as you drive down from Carnac Plage..

If you get further along into western Brittany (Finistere) try Guilvenec (working port, you can buy langoustines straight off the boat still kicking), Point La Torche (good surf) and Quimper (very pretty city)

If the weathers cack in Brittany, head south west down the coast a couple of hours to the loire atlantique region, taking in Ile de Normoutier (island connected with a long causeway, nice beaches and great seafood and loads of free camping along the lanes near the beaches), La Baule (semi chic seaside resort), if you're feeling really flush and want a treat have dinner and spend a night at this place http://www.annedebretagne.com/ near Pornic, the best food I have ever tasted anywhere..

enjoy the trip, very jealous! T:
