Hi,
I am fitting 18" alloys to my 1996 T4 but don't know what profile tyres I should fit for the best ride, they came with 40's but I am worried this will make the ride too hard ! (The van has been lowered slightly)
What profile tyres do people fit with 18" alloys ?

Thanks

I have fitted 245/45/18 and the ride is much better I had 225/40/18 before .
Had to raise the van as was lowered about 100 now around 60.

Out of curiosity, was there any noticeable decrease in MPG from having the wider tyres?
Ive gone from 195 70 15 steels to 235 40 18, havent noticed any difference in mpg.
Expected a harsher ride but its no different, seems to roll better with more grip.

Same here. I've been running 245 45 18s for over 3 years now. Much nicer ride than 225 40 18s, plus because they are a bit wider they help protect your rims from the dreaded curbing!
I wrecked 2 wheels on pot holes when I had the 225 40s, I've hit a few pots hole since fitting the 245 45s and the wheels have survived. (I to try and avoid pot hole!!!)
MPG doesn't seam any worse or better. BUT according to the sat nav my speedo is not spot on accurate!

I had the 205 60 15 (I think that was the size, standard factory alloys) and put new rims with 225 40 18 on, side by side they where almost the same height, ride is no different to be honest and mpg hasn't altered
