Guys I have all my cables run now for my 240hook up. Connection point is under the bonnet but I now need the socket to go on the end of the cable, so my question is which socket is it that goes on the van, the male or the female one

You should have the plug on the van so that if you plug the lead into the caravan supply first you are not left carrying a lead with exposed prongs with mains voltage.

The socket (female connection) goes on the live supply side (hook up cable).
The Plug (male connection) goes on the load which is your van.
A live plug on the hook up cable would be very dangerous.
Be careful.

why do you need a 32 amp socket , why not 16 amp
16 Amp is fine - you won't find a campsite outlet that will deliver any more than 16 Amps (or you shouldn't, at least...), and many on the continent won't be rated at more than 6A.

ok but the plugs 32 amp is a bigger plug, socket than the 16 amp so 32 amp plug, socket will not fit eny site to plug into eny whay ,
