hi ive got a standalone rev counter but have no wiring instructions with it i know two wires are red and black are for the lighting .. but there are 3 more wires red green and black ?? anyone got any ideas thanks

Is this rev counter for a petrol or diesel?, is your van petrol or diesel?

Usually it will be:

Red: Ignition key switched live
Black: Chassis Earth
Green: Ignition Coil or Alternator tachometer output (Depending whether petrol or diesel)

But what rev counter and engine have you got mate?.

As the Alternator/Coil wire isn't universal.
