My first T4 (Caravelle) build thread

I bought this caravelle from another forum member (and she bought my T5 T:) Apparently this bus has some history on this ere forum.
Anyway I have plans to convert it into a camper and hope to have it ready for the spring. So far I have removed the pink decals and swapped the wheels for some bargain price 17 inch Merc alloys with 235/45's fitted.
I'll update as and when I get stuff done T:

Well I finally got to make a start on the conversion. Job for today was to remove all of the interior trims ready for insulation. The trims are a bit fiddly but they all came off without breaking. A few pics below of before and after. Hopefully get started on the insulation tomorrow.

Brave lad, but job well done T:

Might also be worth getting the fuse thingy for the rear aircon sorted while it's all apart (but I'm only guessing that's where it is located :* ) x

Thanks Kate. The fuse carrier is melted but I need to check why it melted. I'll probably get a new one from TPS and go from there. To be honest I don't really need aircon in the rear either but I might as well get it sorted while it's all stripped. T:

Little update. I took out the Sharan seats and cut off the stops on the frames so that the seats now swivel 360 degrees. This means that they now rotate inwards and spin all the way round without having to open the door or get out the seat. 20 min job and well worth doingT:. Couple of pics for anyone interested..

Also finished the insulation. Next job on the list is to recover all the lower panels.

Update on the interior. I've re-covered all of the lower trims with black acoustic cloth. All the interior trims have been re-fitted and the Variotech seat is in. I also mounted the leisure battery on the floor behind the driver's seat and made up a box to go round it. A digital voltmeter and a couple of 12v sockets are mounted to the front of the box. I'm thinking about building some full length units but undecided so we'll see how it goes. Here's some pics........

Cheers Matt. Yeah the acoustic cloth is soft like carpet but not as thick. It's really stretchy too. I got it from Mega Van Mats.
I did strip the original covering off, that was the worst part of the whole job. It has to be done though otherwise you probably wouldn't get the panels back on.
