Conversion number 2, the silver fox - Built-ish NOT bought

Ha ha, so finally after spending loads of money on our T4 and converting it into a camper from rags to slightly nicer rags,:D

We have gone spent loads more money and bought a lovely T5 174bhp T28!!. A:A:A:

The reasons for getting a T5: 6 speed, power (the little old 1.9td had to be ragged everywhere!) and a little more modern feel to everything! Rasp:

The plan for this van is windows all round - still can't decide on the rear windows as want a little more darkness when sleeping. Elevating roof, insulate and sound-deaded, smartbed, TV and electrical gubbins. Plus all the mod cons that we can squeeze in.

I've learn't lots along the way here reading the forum so will try and document it a bit better than my T4 build! hope some of this helps others!

Thanks for looking..

So before Dean got into cutting the windows out we had to remove the previous owners interior. I'm not really sure if its a marmite thing or just too Austin Powers for us  so its going!

And once the units were out then comes the expanding foam stuck down celotex. it surprises me how badly this job has been done even though the correct materials were used!

This stuff was a real sod to get off the window frames so that we can carpet properly!

Part way through the fitting.

Thanks for looking, we'll get to something interesting soon!

So been quiet for a little while. My wife had our Baby boy. We've redecorated most of our new house and so I'm getting a bit more quality van time.

I picked up a bargain set of alloys for ÂŁ90 from a guy who upgraded to 20" and I don't want to mess with the geometry/insurance so these load rated setups should be fantastic!

So I got the tyres removed as I'm gonna swap the tyres from my existing steels across as they are still pretty new.
beginning the sanding and prepping:

Had some old paint hanging around from my old ISUZU trooper which was an anthracite typre grey so I thought I'd throw a bit of that on to see if it looked any good.

I'm pretty impressed with the effort, starting on the other ones now! Let me know what you think..

Cheers

used plenty of thermal wrap, making sure to seal all of the holes/draughts.

cant believe the difference it made to the overall sound of the van.

lots of fixing of the canvas down, easy enough. took some time to fit the reinforcing panels along the sides of the van but instructions and help from vanhaus was really good!

once we finished fixing the canvas down we read of some awful conversion thread of someone who paid a horrific company to convert and they bodged the sealing, so, on the advice of another member here we masked carefully the edges and then sealed carefully trying to avoid too much sealant.

then we went to mvm campers up in the valleys who did a really good and economical job of the "vohringer" units. helped the guys fit and pleased with the results

then it was hooking up the gas and fridge, all worked well but bloody expensive fridge!!

then time for the shows and camping!!

and thats how it ended, we ended up selling to our local mechanic as we were just getting too concerned about having so much cash tied up in this.

And a year and a bit later... we roll on number 3.....

Cheers mate, its Silentcoat 2mm sound deadening bulk pack 40 sheets probably need 2 packs if doing floor ÂŁ80 each pack!
silent coat isolator 6 sound proofing and then insulation (B&Q recycled plastic fibre, all sealed in with the B&Q thermal bubble wrap and plenty of aluminium tape)

thats what most people do. I think if you ride it on long trips the sound deadening and proofing are worth it.

See my new build soon -- plenty more proofing!!
