2.5 TDI Injection pump timing

Hello!

I own T4 2.5 TDI AJT engine. I figure out with VCDS that timing of my fuel pump is too retarded. I found following procedure for adjustment:

44. Slacken the camshaft sprocket bolt, counterholding with forked tool.

45. If the timing is advanced, turn sprocket by hand anticlockwise, if its retarted, turn it clockwise. We’re talking millimetres here.

46. Tighten bolt, counterholding the pulley again, and ensuring it doesn’t move.

47. Switch engine on and use VAG COM to check timing again.

48. This process may need to be repeated several times (or more!) before you get the timing just purrrfect.

49. Now reinstall injection belt cover, slide radiator back and install grill.
Please let me know if this procedure is correct to adjust timing ?
im not 100% sure if this procedure is proper way because on other sites and Autodata states that injection timing should be adjustet via injection pump sprocket when bolt (2) is slackend...

I checked timing pointers of fuel pump belt and its all fine so if i understand you correctly adjustment can be set in that way:

1. Slacken camshaft sprocket bolt
2. Slightly turn camshaft sprocket clockwise
3. Tight camshaft sprocket bolt
4. Check timing with VCDS...
