Hi I am thinking of fitting a tune box type remap , I would assume they aren't as successful as a ecu remap but as my vehicle is 1998 , which I am led to believe means a ecu removal to carry outt work . Question do tune boxes work and best makes available

Your vehicle will run the MSA engine control unit with a pair of PLCC32 27C010 chips inside, so to tune these ecus we need to desolder these chips and solder sockets into the ecu, we can then custom tune the vehicle using 29F010 chips that we can reflash in the chip programmer as many times as it takes to get the custom tune spot on.

Yes its a little more work but if you have the right equipment (which we do) its really just quite easy.

That was an interesting point about pulling up the inclines. I have a 2001 2.5 ACV (auto) with 224,000 miles on it and it pulls well and will accelerate up steep inclines. I have just bought a 2002 ACV (also auto) with 120,000 miles on it and it seems to be less powerful and won't pull the same way up the inclines! I have had the old bus for 4 years and the previous owner never mentioned it had been chipped or tuned, though I was mightily impressed by the performance after my previous 2.4 (manual). Where is the ECU and what should I look for?

Thanks
Vince

Hi Vince,

When I say inclines I do mean steep ones.

You wont be able to check the ecu unless you are experienced I am afraid.
Perhaps Martin could advise you but I wont reccomend opening the box for fear of breaking something.

Remap is one thing but remap and injectors is a more powerful potion :)

Hi Martin I would like to book my 1998 2.5 tdi acv engine into your place . However I would appreciate advice in advance . I had new timing belts fitted 9,000 miles ago at a Vw main dealer (who unfortunatly no longer trading ) , I Noticed a definite loss of power straight away .i have since had the vehicle on vag com . I was told timing is 22 at fuel temp 130 ,I am told it should be 41-60 , Also fault code 00575 is loged indicating intake manifold pressure control difference . Possibly a sticking waistegate problem .As the waists gate is not serviceable a new turbo is required.I only do 3,000 miles a year hence the reason I have never got round to sorting it. The performance is ok solo apart from long hills , However when towing is poor . My questions are first how much does the incorrect timing effect performance and can you adjust . Would you normally carry out a diagnostic check before you remapped , I am sure I do get tubo boost but to what degree . I am x trade but in1995 when I left the only electrics on a diesel were the starter.
