In my limited experience, anything thats good for the environment is bad for the engine, its the same across the board with all makes and models but particularly diesels. What you will save in tax you will pay for with expensive DPF filters failing and EGR valves clogging up plus whatever else they add to modern vehicles to strangle all the life out of them.

 

Interesting! This is what I wnt to find out, I am all for saving the planet and cost but dont want to swap one saving for an expensive service or failing parts?

If new ( T5.1 / GP ) i'd go for the 140 or 180 with a 6 speed box as your camper is likely to be heavy
if looking at older T5's vans this would mean a 130 / 174 but the newer vans probably do 5 mpg more if driven sensibly and the 5 cyl engines can be expensive to work on.

i've got a 114 bluemotion The stop start is good as are the low rolling resistance tyres and the cruise control. fuel economy excellent ( 43mpg ). unfortunately 4th and 5th gear is a bit long in the Bluemotion. Ok if you are lightly ladened but you would find yourself in 4th alot on the motorways.

Unless you are buying a much older vehicle ( pre 2005 ) then all the engines comes with EGR etc to comply with the emissions so you cant escape these features.

Seems like a good idea now, but imagine what it'll be like 10-15years down the line, when you're trying to pull away from the lights and the engines sat their cranking over...

Of course, that probably wont be your problem

 

Most of the Eco stuff like dpfs etc are on every model anyway. Some of the blue motion stuff is dynamic tweaks and low resistance tyres etc.

I like vws blue motion range and doubt that there is anything extra that will go wrong any quicker than the rest of it, but that's just my opinion
