OK now I'm interested....I average around 39 to 40 mixed driving, full load on motorway it settles around 36mpg if I cruise at good to above normal speed. If we are talking warp speed....well thats between me and Spock, but think around 32mpg.

But 2 stroke oil added? I have heard of this but thought it only helped for an old style diesel not a tdi. Sounds like this is worth a trial. How much do you add per tank full?

Am doing Witney to Sunderland this weekend with a full load of illegals....(Thats northern folk who moved down T' sarth)I:

Might see how it goes.T:

Most people use 200:1 ratio i.e 100ml of 2 stroke per 20l of diesel. So for a 70l fill up about 350ml of 2 stroke. I don't bother measuring any more, just shove a good glug in every ÂŁ25 worth. improves engine running, MPG, black smoke etc. been using it for past 10,000 in my 2.5 tdi, with only positive results.T:

I dunno what i'm getting mpg wise, but it seems to be 40ish miles to ÂŁ10 around town  taking it easy. Only short runs and not really fully warmed up, but derv is ÂŁ1.50p per litre, i've had a fuel card for over 8 years with my company but obviously can't use it for the T4, last time I bought derv it was less than 80p per litre, so I don't know if mine is poor on fuel or not.

I use 2 stroke and only use the cheap red stuff as it gives the highest oil rate when mixed with diesel
I put a full 500ml in per tank
I use it as i see so many pumps going down these day due to low sulphur diesels (sulphur is the lubrication in diesel need i say more)
Granted it effects common rail pumps more as there a stupids pressures but low pressures will wear quicker without as much lubrication so i figured it will all help and after doing a lot of research on the net etc i put it in every time T:
Been using it for a long time now with no ill effects .

I'm another long term user of two stroke in the diesel, I normally put 400ml per full tank in. Mines been re-mapped on standard injectors, blocked off EGR valve and de-catted. The vans covered 145,000 miles with the last 60,000 on 2-stroke, average mpg is now about 42-44 with it going up to 48-49 on a long run. I`m seriously considering doing the 5th gear mod as I reckon I can get the van into the low to mid 50`s with it.

I get about 35/36 on my daily commute (mix of everything from dual carriageway/twisties/stopstart)
It used to be about 38/39 with an empty van, has dropped a bit with full camper setup.

I'm off down to north devon tomorrow, proper loaded up for a few days camping with daughter as a practice run for our Europe trip later in the year, and am going to be paying close attention to the economy! Will report back..

Guys - forgive me - I'm new to this T4 Forum.

I've got a T4 2.5 tdi 102 from 2000. Its just done 180 miles from 40 litres- 1/2 the tank inc reserve - which is a poxy 20 mpg -ish. This is with me driving it like Miss Daisy in a mix of 30 - 60 mpg town and motorway. I really did expect more from this. Just had the cambelt and water pump done at Eurovans Brighton. Could it be a fuel pump timing issue?
Is this all I can expect from my new purchase? My Golf V5 does better mpg than this !!!!

Spellberg, it could be a timing issue. Does the van drive as well as it didbefore the timing belt?

I only ask as over two T4 vans and some 400,000 miles or more I have had a few belt changes and to be honest, only the last one was sorted out correctly. Everytime before they had to take the van in and correct it. It only needs to be a fraction out and its all to .

I now check that the garage have all the locking pins before they do it. T:

As to fuel...I now add a dash of 2 stroke and recently in mixed driving had 43.4 mpg, but put that down to ultra light right foot and well inflated tyres.A: But that is up from my normal experiences, so I am just trialing a half tank to top up again using hard off the lights and assorted right footed thuggery.

I'll top up around 500 miles in and see what the numbers come back with. But am expected around 36 or 37 mpg if I am lucky.

OK...UP-DATE REF 2 STROKE...

Just filled up to check fuel economy with 2 stroke added and did 480 miles with a heavy right foot, and some serious thrashing through the gear changes. Average was 39.7 mpg.

I would say that the 2 stroke helps by a factor or 2 to 3 miles per gallon. But biggest change is driving style.

i have just Achieved 718 miles from a full tank (about 20 miles passed the low fuel light) cost ÂŁ118 TO REFILL. I have also been using 2 stroke for a while, the biggest gain of recent times for me is my van is empty for a refurb. When the back is full it usually returns 650 ish to a full tank.

fuel tank is about 80l. van is 2.5 88bhp lwb

Good reading this. T:

Not had mine that long but average for me is 41mpg. Really mixed environments. Must be around â…“ urban, â…“ twisty country roads and â…“ motorway/dual carriage way. Going to try two stroke in the tank next time round. See what difference it makes.

Van's a 2.5Tdi 102hp Multivan, EGR blank and de-cat.
Cheers Jonnie

When I got mine I put ÂŁ30 in and did 90 miles on it  I must say that frightened me big time. Since then I have changed gearbox oil, New vac/turbo pipes, cleaned and blanked egr, short shift mod, cleaned turbo, fixed pump timing etc. This weekend I did 353 miles on half a tank. I also have to agree with the veg oil statement, my 2.5 smoked like a chimney with some in although it didn't run any worse. T:
