The Classic is best for this.
If you use say a Pioneer 950DAB it will stream so you better off with an iPOD touch
This way then you can control from the touch

 

Classic is the old faithful, I use a iPod touch on mine, and it's faultless, even the new iPhone 5 and touch with the silly lighting connector works fine,,,,,

 

As above it will work with all iPod's from gen 3 onwards.

If you have iPhone 5 or anything with "lightening" connector you need the official Apple adapter;

Beware the fakes don't work - they will charge but not allow data transfer or digital audio conversion!
