VW say only use G12 A8D or Spec TL-VW 774 CD otherwise corrosion damage can occur.
Normally supplied by VW as pre-mixed but antifreeze must be 40% minimum.
G12 is red, if brown then it has been mixed with another product

9 litre capacity for basic system, more if extra heaters fitted.

It's all g13 nowadays . G12 can be hard to get although the comma equivalent can be got handy enough, g38 i think they call it. The g13 off vw is reasonably priced.

Surely you've had your cam belt done and suspect that results in a refresh when the pumps replaced as part of the service.

 

Capacity will be more like 6 litres

 

Got the 9 litres from a brooklands manual for T4 diesel 1.9, 2.4, 2.5 2000-2004 , ought to have been correct but typo's creep in everywhere.

 

Maybe if the engine was completely empty? :*

I've never been able to get more in than about 6 litres when I've changed mine, but I guess that's because there's some residual old coolant still in there.
