Hi all,
Not been on here for a while, the Crafter's been off the road since October. All sorted now, just got back from a 2100 mile euro roadtrip and while it did those miles without problems it's developed a worrying starting fault.
It all started on a red hot day in Germany when I pulled over for 5 minutes. Turned the engine off and when I went to restart it I turned the key, and.......nothing. All I got was a beeping and oil light flashing. I did a bit of Googling while I waited for it to get going again and got the feeling it was temperature related. Anyway, long story short I now think it's down to the "starter relay" - it's got to the point where I can't rely on it starting so it's parked up on the drive while I find a solution.
I'm happy to call a mobile electrics guy but before I do can I do any checks on the starter system myself. I don't even know which relay is the one I need to be looking at - I've taken the cover off the fuse and relay panel (nearside footwell) and have found about 7 or 8 relays in there. This is where the clicking was coming from some of the times I tried to get it going so hopefully i'm in the right place.
I'm certain it's not the battery, starter motor or solenoid as when it does start it literally does it first turn of the key, so can anyone point me in the right direction please so I can try and sort if before I end up handing over cash to someone else. Oh, and I'm also getting no blowers when it refuses to start, and when they come back on (ignition on) it's the signal that it will start up again. I've also lost cruise control (genuine VW kit coded on by dealer and used extensively), this may be an unrelated issue but I thought I'd mention it.
Thanks.
