Can I confirm the presence of a gasket that can be re used on the 1.9 for the egr or is there no gasket as I've been told different things?

Hey there, I'm in the middle of taking the EGR off my VW T5 1.9 2008.
3 allan head screws are not out and EGR is loose and wants to come out, can I get that electrical connection off!! No, is the simple answer! Do they just pull off or is there a catch you need to release before it comes off. Just dont wanna yank it and break something!
Thanks in advance guys.

The electrical connector is a fiddly thing to disconnect unless you've done it before!

I managed to remove the EGR from mine the other day with out disconnecting the wiring connector, with the EGR pulled out of the manifold, you can turn the EGR over and see the tab you need to flick out to remove the connector.

Removed my EGR valve to see if it needed cleaning heres what I found!! And a few pics to hopefully help others. 1.9 BRS engine

Re-fitting is reversing of removing and plug in electrical plug again.

Hope this helps.T:T:
I have a 2005 2.5T5 174 bhp diesel Transporter and having the same loss of power. Will it also have an EGR valve .Vehicle has only done 65000 miles from new and l have just had it serviced and a new battery fitted by VW but still had loss of power driving home. Thanks

great guide, did mine this morning, looked just like all the others pictured here, one question though, did anyone else get like a smell of burning after the job, im sure its nothing, just the stuff getting through the valve after being clogged for so long, the allen bolts are hard to get tight ,seems like a bit of seepage out of the valve, hope the o ring doesnt need to be replaced....any thoughts, and thanks again for the guide.T:

good guide, but mine was self explanatory as i got the vacuum valve.so no light on dash if blanking off egr.just used carb cleaner and left overnight to soak and used toothbrush to clean. Please where gloves and a mask people,as stated not good for you

As has been asked earlier, is this a DIY job on the 2.0 BiTdi newwer model deisel?

I have a 2011 van that my wife uses as the school run bus. The engine management light is on and I bought a VCDS diagnostic cable and it shows that there is an EGR fault and to book into service.....This concept is a bit alien to me (booking into service, that is), but I do not want to up the wife's motor.

I just stuck my head under the bonnet and jeepers, what a tight fit for anything (I am used to a tdi landrover being bad enough).

I guess the first step is to get the Elsawin discs off ebay or similar? Where do I even find what needs cleaning? Is is two hour or weekend job?

Any guidance woudl be helpful (please explain as if to a child! Landrovers I can cope with as used to meccano!)
