Have you checked that the brake lights are working correctly? This is one of the reasons for that fault display - though there are many others that require a code reader, that one should be easy enough to check.

I can confirm break lights are functioning. I have ancode reader arriving today. Whether it will work on my model we will see as I hear they are very hit and miss and there isn't alot of info on what works or doesn't!

 

The brake lights might work fine, but the switch by the pedal has 2 switches inside it, the one you need to test is the other one that the engine ECU uses.

 

I don't recommend that you start investigating the ECU. It's relatively inaccessible - under the main vehicle battery - and it also has a large multi-way connector, so generally if there is a problem with that you will get lots of other symptoms. It's very rare, as far as I'm aware, to have problems with that.

The brake system uses a second contact on the brake switch to figure out how fast the brakes are being applied - it can operate the brake lights Ok with one set of contacts working, but other functions can be impaired without the second set. If you have never replaced a brake switch before, be sure to read up on how to do it, as it's not entirely obvious.

 

Hi guys.

I have a 2005 T5 1.9 and i had the starter motor replaced due to it jaming.
It now starts perfect without any issues.
Alas i have a new issue when i get home the Orange coil light is flashing... i beleive to be the glow plug light.
I have 2 questions.

Could sombody recomend a cheap code reader for a 2005 t5 1.9 that they know should work for me?
Anyone suspect how a new starter could now cause this issue?

I suspected a hose or switch was left loose after changing the starter motor but cant find anything.

Any basic checks I could do would be great as this thing is costing me a small fortune.

I had a similar thing on a t4 turned out to be a bad glow plug relay might be different but worth a check
