Just finished fitting my fog lamps, so thought I'd post up a 'how to'.

You will need:
Fog Lamps

My fogs came with a male spade connector on the white wire, I also added a male spade connector to the back wire.

Pre-made VW T4 Fog Lamp Wiring Loom- consisting of 2 plugs for fog lamps, an earthing ring, and a connector to fit into the fuse box:

No. 53 relay

1. Start from engine compartment and feed the end of the wiring loom (that is to fix into the fuse box) through a rubber grommet and into the cab behind the fuse box.

2. Connect fog lamp loom connector into A2 Pin 8 in the fuse box.

3. Connect the black earth ring connector onto a bolt on the inside of the wing – you will need to remove the painted plastic cover, then use a small nut to screw down onto the ring.

4. Cut holes in bumper to accommodate new fog lamps.

5. Feed the 2 plugs on the wiring loom down to the drivers side fog lamp, and the passenger side fog lamp. I already had my bumper removed as I was painting it so this made access slightly easier. Another option would be to remove the belly pan to allow access from below.

6. If you are fitting the standard OEM fogs then you will be able to clip the plugs on the loom straight into the back of the lamps. If you have lights like mine then you will need to cut off the VW plugs and fit some female spade connectors.
Cut off plug:

Fit female spade connectors with a crimping tool:

8. Remove the headlamp switch and replace with a double pull fog lamp switch.

9. Fit relay no.53 into slot 10 on the fuse box. You will need to remove the metal bridge with pliers before fitting.
Image

10. Plug fog lamps in to wiring loom, turn on engine and test that the lamps are working.
Image

11. Now feed the wiring loom into conduit already in the engine bay, or use zip ties to attach the loom to the outside of the conduit.

12. Mount fog lamps onto bumper.

13. Stand back and admire!

Not really had an opportunity to test them in the fog or in the dark as it is summer time and it doesn't really get properly dark......in fact I think Monday is the longest day?

I know some people have swapped the fog lamp bulb for white LED(s) and use them as driving lights.

ok ready to go but 2 Q's please, before I break anything !

how do I relase and flip the fuse board to access A2-8? which way does it move?

I seem to have a small plastic grey adapter plastic bladed ( not relay ) in posn 10 with a single grey wire coming out at the 9o'clock posn and heading off over the back of the fuse box ?????? - will remove it and see what doesn't work, but anyone any clues please?

Pull out the plastic grey adapter with the grey wire now your rear fog light won't work now put in a relay and now your front for lights work and back fog light works.
the grey wire just tape it up out the way.

the tab at the side of your fuse board slides out about 10mm to release the multi cable plugs

getting desparate now - 1994 T4 Caravelle - rear fog only as standard - 2 posn rocker switch on dash - strange grey wire with plastic foot and single male blade was I seem to recall orignally in relay posn 10, and where i can find any redundant bridge in my odd and sods box!

so

removed relay - didn't originally have brass bridge as far as I can remember

replaced fuse

new rear bulb just in case

light switch off

fog light switch off

1. turned on both switches, through each setting position

fog light telltale doesnt illuminate ( but night time icon illumination does work )

rear fog doesnt work

fuse is fine

2. turned it all off and replaced relay

turn light switch on to side light

turn fog light switch to first position ( front ) and fuse blows

- so a short in the front loom to the front lights? or in the lights themselves ? ???????????? ( belly pan has been off, a wire might have been crushed?)

- but why doesn't rear light illuminate under (1) above ? is it because I dont have a bridge in place?

3. put the plastic footy thingy in, and the blade picks up the 9 0'clock posn on where i think terminal 87 ( live out?) would sit - fuse blows as soon as front fog switch on (side lights already on )

- how can I at least get rear working again for safety, and MoT

seems to me that without bridge or relay, no power is getting to the switch under sitn 2 as above?
