Gates timing belt kits

Hi all,

Probably a silly question, but I'll ask it anyway. What is the difference between the Gates timing belt kits KP55323XS and KP55323XS-1?. The only notable difference is a difference part number for one pulley, but everything else is the same. The pulley with the different part numbers appears to look identical and have the same dimensions too. The only reason I'm asking is that I picked up a van that is a bit of a Frankenstein's monster. It started life as a 2.5TDI AJT engine with the 02B gearbox, but at some stage someone put an ACV engine in it as the AJT died, but they put the AJT Stanadyne injectors back in it, added the ACV intercooler and it's using the original ACV ECU. I was always under the impression that the only difference between the AJT and the ACV was the intercooler and injectors (and obvoiously ECU and gearbox). I've had mixed messages from car parts suppliers with some saying I need the KP55323XS kit as it's the ACV, whereas I've had others saying that one won't fit and I need the KP55323XS-1, presumably because they've searched by reg and it's showing as the AJT still. I'm going to go for the KP55323XS, but was just curious as to what the difference is?

Give Gates technical a call, they will tell you. I get this with oil filters sometimes, ordered using reg number and a choice of 2 turn up, nothing unusual with that but sometimes both have obviously different numbers but look and measure exactly the same.

The belt will be the same as it is the 55323 that states the measurements and the XS is it I remember correct, Extra strength.

A quick edit to say that I think that the first does not have a water pump whereas the -1 does and seperceeds the original.

Also the gates kit doesn't come with a crankshaft bolt or should I say it didn't used to. It's been 14 years since I had a gates kit fitted and the bolt wasn't supplied. As we all know it needs to be changed although mine wasn't on that occasion and it was fine for 4 years. Not me I might add, A garage I used changed the belts that time.
