Does anyone know where to get the new female connectors that fit inside the multiplug for the window motor ?
Someones borked the old one with too much solder and melted some of the plug away
I ordered a new plug from VW but can't find the female connectors

Is it just a case of cutting the old plug apart with a stanley knife and sliding the connectors through from the back ?

Thanks, I ended up going straight to the eurovans parts dept. and he gave me the correct connectors for free.
I just made up a short loom of six wires and crimped it into the old loom with some slack to allow for movement.
Total cost was ÂŁ10 for the blank plug as I had the rest of the stuff.
The breakers wanted ÂŁ65 + V.A.T. for the door loom

I suspect I've got a broken wire somewhere, but I don't think I'm going to attempt a self repair like you guys.

Here's my story:

Central locking stopped working. I found the fuse was blown, so replaced it. All the doors are locking and working except the drivers door. Not a tonk out of the solenoid, even though I took it apart to check. Then I decided to try the solenoid on the passenger side and it worked perfectly. So I knew the problem was with a connection somewhere along the loom.

It's a factory fitted central locking/alarm kit, so all the cables are very well covered in the door bellows. I couldn't see/feel any breaks, so I took the fuse-box out to see if everything looked properly connected up. I don't know if it's just my van (ex-coka cola electric windows, etc. etc.) but it's a nightmare of cables down there. I could roughly see that things looked connected, but it's too much of a mess in there to trace everything properly to it's origin. Still, there weren't any chewed or bent looking wires.

The only suspect looking bit is inside the door card, half way along the loom there appear to be some wires that terminate in bare wire (that looks a tad brown). They looked like that the last time I had the door card off (long before the central locking stopped working) so I had dismissed them. I don't know if that is where the problem is, but I think I've given up.
I'll either have to live with one door not working, or pay a fortune to an auto electrician.

Oh, and watch the metal around the fuse box when tinkering. I sliced both my thumbs up pretty badly trying to fiddle down there.

hi all been tinkering with lecy window mech, drivers side squeeked like chuff so followed door removal thread found broken wires which explained why passengers side didnt work! repaired them as well greased the window slide mech now silence no squeek. thanks again for all posted pis info, the refurb continuesT:

Thanks for this thread really useful, only found it after I'd been fiddling with my loom...so to speak.

Electric mirror adjustment had gone a few months back, windows went today so thought I'd have a look at the loom.

Two broken wires (mirror and window surprisingly) and the rest are pretty mashed so will get busy soldering over the weekend. I've done a quick repair on the windows/mirrors which are both working fine now but having just put it all back together I've found my central locking has now gone :bhd

Anyone know what the 4 different wires are coming from the lock? Brown was almost cut through, white and red are badly mangled but yellow seems to still be ok.

I cut the brown and connected with a crimp connector but still no joy with the locking, its definitely not the battery in the fob.

Problem is my key on the fob doesn't actually work in any of the locks except the tailgate so I'm gonna have to climb out the back until its working again!

What are the yellow, red, white and brown wires?

Apologies. I'm not a sparky so unable to help. I just like to tinker..

Huge thanks for the pics, major help to get the passenger door card off the Caravelle today :)
No problem. Happy to help. T:

It was my turn today, drivers electric window stopped working and the mirror wasn't working properly either so many thanks for this 'how to' guide. It made it so much easier and I was confident doing the job thanks to the photos. soldered and heat-shrunk all the damaged wires and everything now works as it should.

Nice One, much appreciated T:

I also had to fix the wiring in mine today. I noticed that the brown wire in your second from last photo in my van was deliberately cut at some point and not repaired. Do you have any idea what it was for? see image

It was an earth wire which if I remember I couldn't reach, so I cut it and earthed it in a more easy to accessible place.

Glad people have found it helpful. ??

Super write up - and picture walk through... central locking had been knackered for a bit...finally sorted it today..Motor electrician who is a neighbour was most impressed at the guide.T::ILU::D:D
Thanks. ??

Re: Drivers door wiring removal (electric mirrors, windows, central locking)

Yes. They are just connectors inside the body as well. Once you have removed the fuse board, just reach up to your door wiring loom and follow it till you get to the connectors. Yes mine is EW,EM,CL. The part of the loom thats inside the van has conduit around it to stop it bending, I think this may add to why they seem to all fail in the same place. I'm looking at making the part of the loom thats sits in and either side of the bellows stiffer to try and stop it happening again, or lubricating it in some way so it can move forwards and backwards as the door opens and closes without damage.
Replacing the loom will set you back ÂŁ148 from vw. And its no improvement on the original.

Thanks Rob, Cant wait:eek::eek: I'm going to do the passenger side next. Get it out and have a look mate, bet you its fualty.
I have a couple of problems, 1: the passanger window goes down when you open the drivers door fully and 2: the drivers electric mirror motors down on its own.
Is this a common fault with the loom that you are talking about. If so is there a cheap fix?

Great How To guide .....

Does anyone know if there is an ECU or controller for the electric windows as mine are acting up and loom seems fine though i have not removed it completely.

Window got stuck down on holidays ladt week and i had to dismantle it to wind it up manually and carefully !

Thanks

If you have not removed the loom fully through the door bellows, you probably have bare wires. The original loom is cable tied inside the cab. The bare wires tend to be between the cable tie and the bellows.
