Hi all,

I have just bought a T5.1 Sportline and its amazing. However I would like peoples advice on insurance.

The thing I would like help with is that the van is modified with alloys and coilover suspension. I currently have over 15 years no claims bonus with my car. I am selling my car but I have found out my insurance will not let me use my no claims bonus on the van. Can anyone recommend an insurance company who will let me use my car no claims bonus on a modified T5.1!?!?!?

Insurance seems to be a mine field!

Thanks all

Hi, I’m with Adrian Flux as well and they have been great, when we first got the van they do a camper in progress insurance, so any modification you do your covered as long as you tell them, as for the no claims, if you still have your car as well as your van you can’t have your no claims on both, when you sell your car you can, I had the same problem when we bought ours, couldn‘t have the full no claims I’d got with the car on the van, so had to start from scratch with the van (as we still have the car) and everything is covered from the from the conversion, solar panels, coilovers and alloy wheels, I just send a receipt of what I’ve added each year and it gets added ad I’ve added every little thing that’s not standard, I have 2yrs NCD, would have been 3yrs but had a claim when someone went round it with a key, also have agreed value and pay £201.

Mirroring car NCB to other cars is very easy - LV grew my NCB from 1 to 3 cars and not even the lady on the phone could explain how it even happened, she literally left her desk, went to the IT dept and queried whether it was legit and then insured by sports car for £130! Mirroring NCB onto a commercial vehicle isn't easy at all.

Most replies above mention "camper" - thats a whole different ballpark. Campers are about 50% cheaper to insure than the van they're based on.

You need to speak to a specialist such as Flux, A Plan, Brentacre, RH Insurance and see if you can blag a deal... this is assuming you're using it as a leisure vehicle

I had exactly the same situation as you. The van had been modified to a full fit out and re-registered as a campervan. I had the maximum NCD of 10 years on my car which I also sold. AXA Insurance transferred this to the campervan with no issues. Fully Comp costs me £239.99 with another named driver.
