Hello all,

After getting over having to remove the engine the remove the water pump debackle (see my previous post) things have been going well until recently i have been getting an intermittent coil light coming on the dash and loss of power. (see video below)

this all stated very harmlessly and happened once in a blue moon. so thouhgt id let it develop before spending too much time looking in to it. noy it got to the point were i was almost stranded on the road side unable to get it to go. so i did a diagnostic session with VCDS and got these results....

I cleared all the codes but "00562 - Sensor for Oil Level/Temperature (G266) 30-00 - Open or Short to Plus" keeps returning. when putting the keys in the ignition i am getting the yellow oil can light flashing (oil level is fine on the stick) So it was a bank holiday weekend and i got a new oil sensor in the scrap yard. This made a vast improvement but still get the odd knock with a flash of the coil light on the dash. I also ordered a new sensor on eBay the same weekend so to rule it out i changed that sensor again last night clear all the faults and put the key in the ignition and still have the yellow oil can light flashing when the dash lights come on.

SO! my question what else am i missing? could there be another sensor i am not aware of? Im wondering did these sensors get damaged when the coolant mixed with the oil when the water pump seized. any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Being stupid and endlessly playing with a vagcom I found myself getting frustrated at the DRL's pulling the battery down. My genius idea was to find the fuses and remove them, bingo problem solved no DRL'S to worry about.

Wrong.....everything worked as normal except randomly the exact same thing you describe! From memory the fault scan was pretty much like yours.

Eventually twigged that my tinkering might have caused it, fuses back in, sorted, back to normal.

I've taken the bulbs out........

Success!!

So a number of months later I decided to let the problem develop. I was on a trip to Spain when the problem really acting up. Everytime I hit a bump in the road the coil light came on and I lost power. It got so bad that it was conking out on small cobbled streets.

Long story short I limped in to a campsite and started digging for a loose connection or broken cable all the cables outside the electrical box under the main battery. After opening that box I began to check the relays and their conditions for burning or signs of heat when suddenly I discovered a brown cable loose.

What appears to have happened is the earth nut had vibrated its way off the earth pole in the box and the 3 cables worked themselves loose. So the reason I was getting these faults was technically a bad earth but was more prominent when I hit a bump cos the earth cables were jumping around. I found a spare nylon nut from something else and Bolted town the cables. Cleared the faults with the VCDS and BINGO! Back to how things were. 300km today without an issue.
