Hi,

I just fitted a cmc swivel with safe to my bus and it ratles like crazy when some one is sat on it.

Anyone else had this problem?

Re: Rataling swivel seat

Mine creaks, I thought it was just because I was fat but it seems that the metal plates deform in the middle slightly, just enough to cause the locking pawl to creak in its slot, I'm going to experiment with grease, failing that it'll be a case of box section reinforcement and an email to CMC. We'll see.

I have the CMC swivels too - the passenger's one creaks, but the driver's one doesn't, so I just put it down to my passengers being lardy! LOL:

.............looks like I'll have to share the cakes then if it's the seat that's at fault I:

Re: Rataling swivel seat

did the same for me...found it to be the bottom of seat rattling on the locking pin at the front and a similar pin at the back.... bit of superglued gaffa tape/velcro on the top of them stopped me goin' insane ;)

you can see them if you kneel down in the footwell and behind the seat and swivel it...HTH :ILU:

oh and some silicone spray sprayed liberally underneath seemed to stop the squeaks as well ;)

Re: Rataling swivel seat

Thanks guys for the reply.

Had another look at my swivel today, what seems to be causing it is definatly the balls in the bearing. When you look under the seat not all of the balls are in contact which is causing the whole seat to rock around on the bearing. When I looked under the swivel (its one with a safe under it) you can actually see the metal deforming. Its not made from thick enough steel and if I'm being honest if of very more design and I am concerned of its safety.

I phoned mike from cmc and he also told me about the washer breaking down as well he sent me a new one but I don't think thats the problem. As I said before if you put someone on the seat and have a look as the swivel, its the two steel plates which sandwich the bearing together which is flexing and causing the wobbling/creaking. The design is crude but would be fine if the bottom and top plates were made of thicker steel. I got so fed up with mine that I have taken it back out and put the old base back, mine was the one with a safe in it so that was ÂŁ120 well spent. I am going to speak to him about getting a refund, so watch this space to see if I have any luck
