RNS 2 upgrade to android ATOTO S8 PRO

Hello fellow T5 owners!
Greetings from Croatia :)

I have a T5 Multivan v6 with RNS 2 (CD version) and I was planning to upgrade to a more modern android car radio.

After looking at all the double din options and seeing it on a few YT videos I've opted for ATOTO S8 pro. In the videos, it was mostly plug and play as with ATOTO you receive 3 types of harness (2 of them being ISO and one just labeled wires. Unfortunately, as with everything in electronics for me this is not the case of plug and play.

My radio is connected to an amp which is underneath the passenger seat (left hand drive). I believe the amp has 12 channels. Found out that for vans with navigation, they installed 12 ch amp. Correct me if I'm wrong as I can't find more details on this or the wire diagram of the amp.

Also, the RNS 2 has a quadlock and not ISO. The quadlock doesn't have speaker wires going into the radio as they are driven by amp. So i have to figure out how to connect everything and retain all the previous functionality (steering wheel controls, GPS antenna, FM/AM antenna, normal speaker operation...)

I'm not a car radio specialist so have this in mind :)

The ATOTO comes with its own GPS antenna but if I can use the existing one it would be great as it is on the roof of the car.

I would be grateful if someone could help me out in this mess :)
Thanks for the help!!

Here are some pictures from my old radio.

I suppose these are original GPS, FM and AM antennas. So for the FM and AM I will need some kind of converter from FAKRA
Also, I'm not sure the original GPS fakra connector will fit my plug.

Probably not going to be helpful here because I don’t remember the details but I have the Atoto F7 and had to buy some additional quad lock connectors and the aerial connection converter. In the end it was plug-n-plug-n-plug-n-play.
Also I don’t have amp or steering controls.

Not an audio guy but with enough searching and a couple of incorrectly ordered connectors I got it working without having to do any manual wiring.

Something like this:

It looks like you have a T5.1 this harness should do the trick, if you read the instructions on the Atoto it tells you how to reprogramme the buttons to work for the steering controls, the amp outputs are via the harness anyway, it may be worth telling them you have a caravelle before you order

Thanks. This actually looks like it has the correct connections in the quad lock for powering the unit.
But, it's funny that a T5.1 harness is more suitable as my van is from 2005 pre-facelift so a regular T5 multivan highline.

I've seen that the reprogramming of the buttons is quite easy for Atoto (also one of the sales pitch that got me into the purchase)
I'll try and contact the SCR and see what they reccomend.
Thank you for the help

Atoto support answer. They are recommending a few options from Connect2.

1. Connects2 - Vehicle Integration
From these options, the CT20VW08 has the fakra to antenna connection but I'm not sure if the car amp will be powered and connected and I assume that no steering wheel controls will work with this.

2. Connects2 - Vehicle Integration
This one doesn't have quadlock connector but has a CAN BUS

Also, I found this one
3. Connects2 - Vehicle Integration
From the picture, I don't see the right connections in the quadlock adapter that fit my wires so I'm not sure, also there is the amp question again.

im afraid none of those facias, harnesses will work. You need a mk1 Touareg facia, then you have another issue. There are no speaker wires in the harness , only power, ground, CanBus wires and amp input wires

A mk5 golf harness should do your power and audio controls on the steering wheel, used in conjunction with the correct patch lead

then you just need to work out the speaker wiring , hopefully the amp isn’t digitally switched on

A reply from the Atoto support:

As for your issue you are not sure how to connect to the amplifier as you don't have any speaker wires on the dash.
Do you mean you want to connect your car original factory amplifier to S8G2104PR ?

Actually ATOTO car radio S8G2104PR has got the amplifier built in its system , and you only need to connect the 8 speaker wires of your car to the 8 speaker wires on ATOTO car radio power harness ,then you can get the ATOTO built in amplifier to work properly.

But if you want to use an aftermarket/factory original amplifier, you need to connect the 4 RCA ports from the external amplifier to the 4 RCA port( FL,FR,RL,RR )on the back of car radio .

So basically according to them, I'd need to somehow connect the amp with the radio (I knew that)

So a few question for you.
According to the old RNS2 radio pinout there is an output L, output R, and output GND (marked yellow on the picture). Is that used to send an audio signal for the amp or am I thinking wrong?
If yes, can I use those wires to somehow connect to the new radio (speaker outputs, RCA...) to send a signal towards the amp?
Also, the Atoto harnes has a wire labeled amp to power up the amp.

Answer from Peter (SCR DISTREIBUTION)
It will require a complete rewire from the new radio to the amplifier outputs and you will need some crossovers or a 12 channel amplifier.

Well F**ck 🤯
I'm not sure what he meant with crossover (what is that) or a 12 ch amp as I already have an 12 ch amp as I said to him in the e-mail.

ok lets do it logically, your old amp must have outputs and inputs why can you not trace them back to source?
the old head unit HAS to have an output to the amp be it analogue or digital it wont work off magic, once you fidure out what you have already then we can suggest solutions instead of guessing

There's usually a solid blue 'remote' wire which is used as the trigger signal from the back of the headunit to switch on an external amp (often labelled/used for powered aerials). Any audio signal will be output from either the RCA outputs on the back of your new headunit or via the speaker outputs of the quadlock/ISO connectors.
The preferable option is to use the RCA outputs as these signals aren't processed by your head unit - and it's sent direct to the amp to take care of.
