Here we go again i know this has been covered probley lots
After haveing a Caddy Max life for weekend its so quite compared to my T5 kombi :(
So have rear doors and rear sides dyna mated ,This has helped
Do i do floor ?
Do front doors make a big improvement if done ?
What about roof ?
A seems alot of road noise comeing from front wheels
How much has everyone done ?
Caravelles are so much better sound proofed to it seems

Is the T5.1 worse than the T5? Heard a lot of complaints about road noise recently. Our Cali has more insulation than an elephant seal so it's pretty quiet inside but that 2.0 four pot engine doesn't make a pretty noise from the outside.
Hi. I have a T5.1 60 plate Caravelle. Road noise is loud and the ride hard and bumpy. Don’t want to sell cause it’s a 2 owner with 30k on the clock. any ideas on making quieter. Is it insulate doors and all panels incl floor so carpet up etc ? Thank you

You would think we have no bed to go to up posting at this time :D
Hard to say ,I know before i did any Dynamating it was shocking
Yes is noiser than my last T5 kombi but then i now have lowered springs and wider tyres
Would think these dont help
Just the Caddy Maxi i had there was very quite
Looks like have to get more dynamat done ,I do long trips 4 hours none stop the noise gets to you after a while

I did the rear arches, all rear panels and roof with barrier mat and class O 25mm foam on our last van.
Quieter but not quiet enough in my opinion. Even with Caravelle conversion, Altro floor and total carpet job (even door metalwork).
The cab seemed incredibly noisy after doing the back.
This time I'm trying Silent Coat. Stripped the entire interior and covering the lot!
Front and rear arches, bulkhead, entire roof (inc cab), all doors, floor, all lower panels (windows all round).
Massively expensive but I'll do the iPhone Db app and let y'all know if it works. T:

...that might be a good thread, "what is the db level in your van" ...tested at say 70mph on a motorway then we would all be able to compare solutions......We have a windows phone so I will see if there is an app for that.....T:

I found the carpeting/insulation out back helped alot (I also flashbanded all panels inc roof)

I then pulled the dash apart and packed bottle insulation in all the holes that helped, then flashbanded the front floor.

Still doors to do and i'm replacing my altro flooring out back as I think that makes alot of noise, but its never going to be amazongly quiet!

Thats a big big change ,
i think a 3 or 4 change in DBs is the same as near doubleing noise
So A 10 DBs improvement is a lot T:
Pitty VW dont offer better options for this problem and it seems a problem
Its ok short trips its the long Motorway trips thats get you (and poor UK roads !!!)
We should do a Noisey road thread list them :D
Hankook Tyres Swiss
Looks it i want a improvement just have to get stuck in more Dynamat

Measured sound the other day on the motorway at 70mph I had an average reading of 73dB on A weighting. I thought my wife's megane was quieter but we went to legoland and I measured it and had an average of 85dB did seem quieter before I added sound proofing, Hers has a lower frequency of sound where as mines higher.
Mine's in VW for paint work issues atm and they have kindly lent me a new sportline kombi, I can't believe how noisy it is no. I'm going to measure it tomorrow on the motorway.

All very interesting ,All i know i do long runs at M Way speeds and its giveing me a sore head
With the road noise , Totaly fed up hard to even have a chat with anyone in Van and hands free phone is a no go:*
Is dynamat best anything cheaper need to do roof as well i think ??

But I can have a normal conversation with the passenger at 70mph without shouting. If a proper meter is available then by all means I will use it but not going out to buy one as won't ever use it again.

Test drove my prospective purchase today.(09 plate 2.5 auto)
Even though it had a full bulkhead,I couldn't believe how noisy it was inside, seem to be coming from the front wheels, tyres are normal Bridgestone van tyres about half worn.
After 20 min driving I got a headache, even tried turning up the standard fit stereo but it sounded rubbish !!!
Was so glad to get back into my own work van (Merc Sprinter 316 auto) so much quiter and a far better sounding stereo.
Will have a drive of the other 2 identical spec vehicles to see if they are the same :confused::confused:
