right guys i need to get the van to my local garage so i can get the work done on it ,prob is she wont start she turns over coughs a bit of smoke out the exhaust but just wont start up,popped into the garage to see the blokes in there and they suggest squirting some easy start into the air intake, i have a mate who does most of my car work of an evening text him to ask him to give me a hand and he popped over and said not to use the easy start on it as its to powerful for my diesel engine and will knacker it and also the engine will become addicted to it and wont start without it, so what do i do do i use it and once i get it started give it a really long drive in the hope it gives it a good clear out or tow it down to the garage to get it sorted???

Amy Wine house was a long term drug abuser
Shame she had to die ,,but it was a for gone conclusion that she would end this way
And some very good music will now never be writen

But a derv motor getting hooked on easy start Not a chance ,,as has been siad above ,if it needs it then the motor is sick and needs to be fixed

not sure about the fuel flowing im a bit of novice when it comes to engines i now bits but def no expert, ive just ordered a new fuel filter and ive already brought the glow plugs to replace (id try replacing these my self but ive heard its a pig of a job and they some times sheer off) :S the engine was running fine and ive started it up a good couple of times since bringing to my place,it turns over fine (also brought a new battery) but it wont fire up just smokes a bit from the exhaust and thats it.could be the glow plugs god knows how old they are, ive also got a oil light flashing but theres oil in there. alternator belt is on its way out and ive also brought a new one to replace this thans for the replies :)

well the garage is less than a mile away so i might just get the garage to tow it for me or ill have to get a friend to pull me there, erm pre heat light comes on when key in first position then takes about 30 seconds give or take before it goes out.ive tried turning it over until the battery started running down but just smokes you can nearly hear it start so it is trying lol, would pulling the cold start help? i pulled it out but it took ages to get it to go back in i couldnt get it to stay when pushed in

its an engine how does it get addicted???LOL:LOL:

what happens is people never fix the reason why the engine dont start and carry on using easy start.

i think you wanna use easy start just to get it going to take it to garage for repair?

theres nowt wrong with using a little squirt of easy start just to take it garage, read instuctions on tin and dont go mad with it to much and you can damage something.

if ya that worried just tow it.

cant ya get somebody to come out to you and replace glow plugs and fuel filter?

o so i might try a small squirt tomorrow see what it does if its not gonna knacker it completly or anything :) the cold start pulled out fine but pushing it back in was a bit of a problem erm hard to explain as ive not had a vechical with a cold start for a long time lol but pushing it in it wouold just pop right back out again so almost like pushing it against a spring or something or a bit like putting your finger over a bike pump and trying to press down on it and it pops back out lol technical im not pmsl.

Seen on another forum that Easy Start should only be used sparingly, (too much can strip vital lubricants from certain engine parts), and should be used when the engine is being cranked. (as the fluid/gas expands so rapidly it can bend conrods and stuff). BTW I'm NOT an expert.
I'm just about to post a query about how to test glowplugs while they're in place. It's a 2.4D so it's five glowplugs and one especially hard to get at.
