I have mounted the gearshifter inside the cab, on some brackets. I've put it level with the handbrake lever as the standard t4 position gets in the way, plus I plan to build in a centre console at some point. Despite being in this position, it's a very comfortable gearshift and I haven't needed to extend the knob upwards either. The bracket mounts are easily detachable to access the fuel sender, which is a good this because ive had to get to it several times already to sort out a fuel gauge for the dash.

How did you get around the fuel supply? Did you use the cars lift pump etc?

I am starting my ARL conversion next week so am trying to gather as much info as possible
The PD engines don't actually need a lift pump to run properly. The ATD/AXR/AJM engines in the golf's etc don't actually have one fitted as standard. The ASZ and ARL engines benefit from the in tank lift pump at higher rpm's due to the larger injector nozzles and mapping. Having said that I have fitted a 12psi in-line pump next to the fuel filter. It's wired in to the standard fuel pump relay so runs off the ignition, but I have also wired in a manual bypass switch to prime the system.

In other news, the van has just passed the 500 mile mark on the new engine with few issues. One issue I have had was to do with boost, limited to zero boost under full throttle. I'm hoping this is due to a faulty map sensor which is on order.

Only other issues that have only cropped up since driving it have been inner and outer tie rods, front shocks, rear disks and pads, offside front wheel bearing and a nearside font caliper. Can't beat the van life

Make Sure when fitting the "Lift Pump" that its pushing the fuel to the front of the vehicle and not pulling.. pulling creates cavitation and will shorten the life of the pump dramatically.. ask me how I know LOL:

Fit it near the tank and you'll benefit in colder temps as it pushes the fuel through to the engine, prety much starts on the button every time. first turn of and all that..T:T:

You can buy various Facom pumps on ebay at different pressures.. I chose the larger pressure due to pushing the full length of the vehicle...Facom are a recognized brand and are widely used..

Not strictly true. It can be made to fit using custom mounts and the 02M box like the OP has done. If I remember correctly, we've seen someone shoehorn a VR6 engine into a short nose (albeit with a fair amount of fabrication).

One of my major issues with Facebook was the amount of misinformation that did the rounds on there.

Good point, 1.8t has a regular oil filter hanging off the front of the block, not the massive casting like on the PD.

Forgot to mention, the T17 rolling road day has a few spaces left, saturday 2nd in Telford. ÂŁ30 for a power run and graph, all welcome, bbq lunch :)
