Hi,
I have a 2005 T5 2.5 130 which has done 120,000 miles and has been remapped.
My MPG is starting to worry me a bit and think there maybe something wrong.
Im getting 35 miles to £10. Is this normal?
Am thinking of getting a Terraclean done to clean out all the to see if that helps. Is there anything else I can do to try and improve on this…apart from the obvious driving slower!!
Cheers.

There's really not enough information to make a reasonable decision on your fuel consumption. Even by filling some of the gaps you would still not have supplied enough to judge by. IF we guess you're buying your fuel at say £1.40 a litre that means you've used 7.14 litres to do 35 miles which works out at 4.9 miles per litre or 22.5 mpg (X 4.55). If those 35 miles were from cold and you were stuck in traffic then it would be reasonable but if you were cruising gently then not so much. To get a more accurate reading do it from using the mileage covered and fuel used from at least 2-3 tank fills.

Regeneration of an old thread but anyway ----

My 2.5 tdi t5 2005 is only covering 30 miles on 10 pound of shell diesel. Drove to work at 0639 am yesterday easy drive like miss daisy style - drove back the same distance and a small A road trip just and 30 miles and the lights on again!!!

I'm sure a 6.0 AMG merc doesn't use that much fuel!

It's been terra cleaned 2 month as ago to.

So you've only ever put in a gallon and a half of diesel every time you fill up? What's the point in that?
The only way to get accurate mpg is to fill up and brim the tank then use the whole tank and brim the tank again. Ideally from the same pump but not necessary. Then calculate mpg as usual.

There are too many variables when you are only part filling a tank, when the light comes on for example.

Ok done some quick calculations and it appears that im approx +11% on my wheel/tyre combination over standard!!
So I'm assuming this means that I'm doing 11% more miles than indicated on the tach and therefore the mpg readout is displaying -11% inaccurate. Is this right?

It reads approx 32-35 mpg on a steady run so that would mean it should be reading approx 36-39 mpg (I think!) I hope it not the other way round! But my full tank to full tank will give me a far more accurate number, so ill have to wait and see. Interesting exercise though, particularly if your relying on the digital reading for your economy figures. Ill repost my data once I have filled up to give a comparison of how accurate/inaccurate the readings are and factor in the tyre size.

Hi
I think yes there is something wrong.
I have a 90K, 2.5 SWB 2005 T5. 130BHP. Remapped by My-self running 170 ish BHP. With ZERO black smoke.

I get 39.9 mpg on a run.

If I do town driving I get 36.6 mpg.

I don't drive it like a rally car nor do I drive it like a nun.

Its running sports suspension and 20" alloys. 2+1 seats (Heavy) and fully insulated, dynamated and carpeted with a roof rack and tow bar.

Only think I do is put a bottle of fuel injector cleaner through every 5 tanks.
