You could check all the connections to the various sensors - just one intermittant one could case all sorts of problems.

many thanks for all the advice I had the van diagnosed by http://www.wagenworx.co.uk/ the problem was a split intercooler.Top notch technician would recomend everytimeT:

can i just ask if your van was going in to limp or just not a lot of power ?
my van pulls good in 1st + 2nd then feels flat its not worth useing 6th
is that anything like yours was ?

yes similar it was ok in 1st till the turbo built up pressure then it went into limp mode,in effect it worked ok but there was no boost from the turbo.This seems amongst many others a common fault.
Be careful as some "experts" dont interpret the vag com results properly,mine had a low boost pressure,everything else was ok.It has caused me a lot of grief.
It is really important to know of a good tech guy they can save you a lot of money in the long run.
