Hi all,

Got one of those odb Bluetooth adapters for displaying info from the vehicle using torque app as seen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FKdNYavIcQ
This works great on my 04reg 2.0 petrol Passat, but just won't connect on my 55 1.9 t5 104hp , just wondering if anyone has had some success with one of these on a t5 or can shed some light on why I can't connect, I only bought it for my t5 as my Passat has a trip comp that I'm quite happy with,

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me understand this

The canbus version only makes a difference to the T5.1 (Canbus is used for diagnostics on T5.1, k line for diagnostics on T5)(but T5 do have a canbus system!!)
Also running these universal adaptors on T5 sometimes interfere with the Can bus and stop the indicators working:eek:

The only option for pre-OBD vans will be something like this VCDS Mobile < Link to ross-tech website but its not out yet :(

So the universal adapters won't work? Thanks for the link I will keep an eye on the progress, I know there is already a system that works on are t5s link: http://berthathebus.blogspot.co.uk/2011/01/garmin-nuvi-and-ecoroute-update.html and now you don't even need the sat nav unit you can just download the app and run it straight from your Android phone / Tab, link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.garmin.android.apps.mech&hl=en the software is nowhere near as polished as "Torque" but it does seem to display the main stuff, I plan on buying the Bluetooth adapter ÂŁ70 from halfords or Amazon , I will let you guys know if it works

I should be getting one in around 6 weeks time - so if I can find someone down here (south of London) with a 2004 van I will plug in and see if it works.

One of the good things about the free Garmin Mechanic Android app (and the equivalent one built into their satnavs) is that they ~should~ give truly accurate mpg. The VW trip computers aren't accurate because all they can do is add up the duration of all of the injector pulses and give a rough sum, but the Garmin apps have the "At the pump" input, so it can correct its initial rough guesses with actual info on fuel put in. Not sure if the Torque app has something equivalent or not.

hi there, got this app and the adaptor and works fine ,just wondering, what should the figures be for the throttle position? mine reads 96% at idle, is this right? on my brothers car it reads 4% on idle and goes up as i rev,,,,just wondering if my throttle sensor is ok, no faults show up on the test. thanks in advance, carol, van is 1.9 2007.

Mine shows similar (though not quite so nonsensical) misreadings for both Engine Load and throttle in Torque. Strange thing is that while driving it makes sense, so on the overrun the engine load goes to zero, but at idle it sits at just below 50%! So I'd guess it's something that the ECU is reporting wrongly via the OBD interface rather than anything more problematic...

[Incidentally, to update this old thread, I owned the Garmin Ecoroute HD for about a year and then ditched it in favour of a cheap Chinese OBD dongle and Torque. Ecoroute worked Ok but I got fed up with waiting for it to connect to the ECU if you had to unplug it. It would typically take around 5 minutes to connect, and it would stop attempting to if you drove the van while it was trying! Life is just too short for that, so it had to go...]

Quick update - the following is Torque running on a refurbed Hudl with a cheapo Chinese bluetooth dongle (total cost ÂŁ66, which is cheaper than the dongle alone for EcoRoute). It's good in that you can get a large easily read display of important figures all on a single screen.

It's actually quite hard to find a location to mount it where it doesn't either obscure the view to the front or some of the controls. As it is, it covers over the lighting control, but there's enough space behind to use the switch Ok - and no holes needed to be drilled in the dash to mount it.
