First post for new member, hoping someone can give me some info/help? Have started having a problem with the intermittent wiper setting on my T5. When you press the stalk down when the ignition is on, but the engine is off the wiper start continuously as if in speed No.1. Turn teh engine on and they park all okay. Whilst the engine is running and you put the intermittent switch on or press the stalk down they start, but do not do a full sweep and park, they just move about 10-15degrees accross the screen and then stop, then start again with a few more degrees then stop. They will not park at any point, nor will they park when switched to full speed and then to stop, I'm having to jog then into a park position by pressing the stalk down until the parked position is reached. I Have contacted the local VW van center in Peterborough who had a look last week and diagnosed it as teh wiper motor. Whilst I had my doubts that it was the motor (as the motor was working in normal speeds fine) I purchased said motor and fitted it only to be proved correct and that the fault remained as before. Thank god I didn't get them to fit it as I would have been a further ÂŁ250 lighter for a mere 20minute job. So I contacted said 'experts' at the van centre again and asked for a cost for the wiper relay (as this is what I thought it would have been originally). After the person on the phone checked the parts list and after asking numerous questions to the other'experts' around him it appears that there is no relay to control the wipers intermitent setting on a T5. Neither could he tell me what did, whether it be a central control unit , stalk or nothing. I am now faced with having to have the onboard computer read to see what the issue is for what was once a simple fix! I have however found the relay which controls the wipers, but it is soldered into a PCB along with a million other components in a black box behind the dash, nice that!!
What I would like to know, before I have to go to said garage again and leave the van with the 'experts' for a day for them to charge me a fortune to tell me that something is wrong with the wipers, is has anyone seen this before? Better still has anyone come up with a 'fix' for this issue without having to replace everything from the motor back?
