I'm a self employed I.T. Engineer I get an accountant to do mine, but I do know that he claims for all expenses related to my work, some of which are:

Materials (Parts etc)
Services (Broadband, phone, mobile, etc)
Vehicle expenses, (Fuel, tax, MOT, repairs etc)
Insurance (Car / buildings, professional indemnity etc)
Clothes (Company logo on polo shirts, fleeces etc,)
A percentage of my home utility bills, (gas water, electric etc)
Accountancy fees
Computer Magazines
Parking

There's probably a bit more, I'm sure others will add to the list.

A word of advice, create a spreadsheet and put your income and expenses on it every day. Doing your accounts is a pain that most people put off till the last minute, when it becomes an even bigger pain. A couple of minutes a day makes it so much easier.
