Hi all, I will be getting hold of a 96 P volvo 850 2.5 tdi 140 auto (Complete car) and was looking at taking turbo/manifold/downpipe/intercooler/fuel pump etc off to turbo the 2.4 but then thought what about swapping the lumps over !!!

Any one done this? do we think it would be straight forward? I believe its the same engine!

Any help/info on either option would be a great help

Thanks

Ok So as mine is 2.4 not 2.5 tdi will my gearbox fit onto this engine? Can I use my sump/pick up and dip stick or will I need to get hold of 2.5 parts?

I can take care of the engine swap but would love some help with the electric side of things

Willing to pay some foldy when it comes to the tricky bits ecu etc as I have no clue

Any help via phone would be great if anyone has 10 mins for a chat on the job !

If I have the whole car I think swapping engines is the way to go, plus 140 on tap :ILU:

I have the car now its a 1996 850 tdi 2461cc, its a 5 cylinder and runs sweet as a nut, 1private owner from new, full history 185k !

I'm going down the engine swap if possible, can I use my sump (2.4) and oil tube or will I need them off a 2.5 tdi?

Any ideas with the electric side of the job :eek:

if the autobox on the volvo is good then that's worth good money becuase there was an insane arrangement on those 850s where the radiator system was routed into the box's cooling & that interface is prone to letting go, flooding the box with car coolant. End of box.

If it does fit there's some nifty mod that can be done to the turbo hardware. No idea what but my bro had one of those 850 T5s which had had that fitted, on an auto & that one pulled harder than his later whatever T5 (chipped) & his Saab 9 whatever turbo. It's still on the road now!

BTW that's the last proper Volvo before Ford got their hands on them.

OOOPS-just checked back-you're talking about the tdi lump! Oh well, I'll leave it up FYI & a laugh
