Is it for mains hook up ? It might work out cheaper to buy a 10m hook up cable and take the plugs off. I've seen the cable advertised for £3.95 per metre or £20 for 10m hook up complete :*

 

I am repositioning my hook up plug. I think you may be right about that. It does appear cheaper. Mad huh.

 

Agree with above I found it cheaper to buy mains connection lead already fitted with plug and socket ends rather than just the cable. Crazy but true. Two things to consider. (!) Are you sure 10 metres will be long enough for your purposes. I found it too short on several sites and had to borrow extra leads hence have just purchased a 25 metre lead. Both together can now reach up to 35 metres! (2) Do check before purchasing that the cable really is 3core each core 2.5 square mm. Some are only 1.5 square mm. The cheapest ones on the internet could well be only 1.5. This was not made clear in several of the camping websites I checked before purchasing. The volt drop through a long 1.5 mm cable could cause a problem with some equipment.

I may have got the wrong end of things but ideally the blue Artic Flex stuff is best for low temperatures (hook up under the van to RCD inside)

I see you point. It runs from firewall to inside. So. It really exposed to warrant the artic stuff. Cheers though.

If you have ended up with any short lengths of cable and spare plugs/sockets it is worthwhile making up some adapter leads. Ideally (but depending on your useage) you might find need for three viz

One with 13A domestic plug on one end and a camping socket (ie one with flap) on the other. This useful at home for connecting up to charge second battery. Can also possibly be used with care on some sites where there are not enough individual hook ups to take a supply from one van through its window to another van. (Providing both do not put kettles on at the same time!)

Another lead with continental plug on one end and camping socket on the other. This for use on some continental sites which do not have usual camping type sockets.

Third short lead with camping plug on one end and camping socket on the other but with the positive and negative wires deliberately swopped over in one of them. This for use to give correct polarity to your van equipment even if site supply has incorrect polarity (quite common on the continent)
