Hi guys new to the forum.
My T5 has started to make a kind of ‘whoooshing’ noise when I accelerate. I’ve had a look online here and people are saying it’s an air leak from the pipes form the turbo. But from looking and playing around with them I can’t see any damage or loose connections. I still have all the power so I don’t think it’s the turbo itself.
Any help here would be great.

Bear in mind some hose splits are really hard to find, as you can't easily see them when not under boost pressure. If it is a leak, it will be very small, as you haven't got under boost limp mode yet.
Look for slight oil stains on the hoses, joints and intercooler. The intercooler should be straight edged, if it's bowed like a banana, it's had it. Also, all the metal C clip hose connectors should be really tight with no movement, any wobble in these, and they've had it.

What year is your t5, the pre facelift used different clips and the tabs on the pipes have a habit of wearing and slipping past the clips. Common locations I have found are the one rubber hose nearest the Turbo, the one that exits the inter cooler and the plastic connection after the first pipe on the exit of the inter cooler. Slight leak and mine would make a hissing noise but when a more visible gap was seen then I’d get black smoke out of the exhaust

Cheers for the reply guys! My vans a 2014 T5 I had it down in the garage this morning and they said they weren't able to replicate the noise when in neutral which I knew was the case but they did say they heard it when taking it for a drive. They tested all the tubing and couldn't find any leaks/cracks. Luckily they were genuine about it and didn't charge me but said if they're to find the root cause they will have to start stripping stuff back which will inevitably result in a hefty bill. I'm at odds now what to do should I get a second opinion before bringing it back to these as every forum/website I'm on seems to indicate either loose connections or cracks which is what you guys are saying too.

Morning all. Haven't been on here for a few years. My 2005 VW T5 1.9 has developed this issue, was picked up on MOT due to excess back smoke from exhaust under acceleration. Ive had my T5 for 9 years and mileage is around 125,000. On looking on here and other places of information - the first thing to check was intercooler hoses, I bought a set off fleabay and replaced all four. Some of the lugs that hold in place were very worn down so I thought this was the cause, it didn't help. I acquired some LDF (Leak detection fluid) had the misses sit in and rev while i sprayed where leaks could occur and I found it - see images.
