Stereo doesn't turn off when key is removed from ignition

I have just installed a Sony XAV-AX1005DB into my VW 800 Special 1.9 2001, all works fine, however, when I remove the key from the ignition the radio stays on. To avoid running the battery flat I have unplug it.

Is there a way of fixing this problem so the stereo turns off when the key is removed? Or would a switch have to be installed to stop power to it that way?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

one of those iso leads will be switched one live you just need to connect the switched to the actual radio power lead. its normally the red, the yellow maintains a very small voltage when turned off just to maintain memory on the unit make sure the keys out when you test them
Red switched live
Yellow perm live
You should have 2 of those iso plugs one for Audio one for power what does the other one look like?
I have noticed a lot of VWs mine included have a weird plug system that needs an additional plug to split into aftermarket Radios yours is a T4 so have never seen one but it may be you need a quadlock that adapts from VW to standard iso
look at this post here same issue

Is there a little diagram on the radio casing itself? There usually is and you just need to match the plug wires to the diagram, it may involve cut and join and dont forget that it is an old van, somebody could well have been cutting and joining in the past to make another radio work.

Managed to sort it so thanks for all who got in touch, much appreciated. just switched the wires, once in the ignition it stayed on however after starting the engine and turning it off once and removing the key it no longer stays on so unsure why it initially stayed on. Thanks again.
