Hi, vans been playing up for abit. Not always from cold but after 5 mins driving, I get a miss fire, judder, light power loss under mid loads. I can coast about but its still there in background. I can drive through worst but dont like thrashing the old girl at 192k. 04 plate 1.9 pd 104tdi axb I was told it has been chipped but cant back it up.. Read codes with a snap on scanner.
17678 pd unit injector cylinder 4 n243 regulation range exceeded p1270
17675 same as above for cylinder 3!
Took live readings of solenoid valve respone time devation
1 05
2 10
3 55
4 60

I opted for injector loom in head first and everything was good for week or 2 but I dont do huge miles in van anyway. Codes were cleared after loom then reread every couple of weeks when scanner was available. These 2 codes kept reappearing. Is there any other areas of engine bay harness to check before accepting I need injectors? Now we're talking injectors, there not cheap are they! £715 dealer each, euro car parts do bosch £280 or lower brand recon at £150. Theres a good diesel place 20 mile away but they cant do pd injectors, they will send them off for me. £50 to test each one but if it requires repair they wave the test fee. Nice of them. I love bosch stuff and trust the brand but my pockets dont have money pouring out of them. I should get all 4 checked banking on 2 bad ones will require repair and 2 ok. Any recomdations or brands to avoid? While im at this point, if I wanted to increase power what injectors would be suitable? I didnt look at number on mine when I change loom buts its axb engine code.what will these èngines go upto power wise with bolt on upgrades and remaps? Planning a overhaul at 200k but keeping standard internals.(injectors pending) all input is greatly appreciated.

While your working out best course of action put a fuel injector cleaner, double dose in your next fill. Miller do a good one in Halfords, with an octane boost. It got rid of my judder under engine load. Much cheaper than injectors if all they need is a bit of a clean. Plus even if it doesn't solve it it will help on MPG at the very least.

Bizarre..
Mine 1.9 pd, did this on the way to work this morning I did put in some injector cleaner to be on the safe side. I'll read if there's any codes tomorrow..

I did a fuel filter at the early stages of fault. (But I forgot to tell you!) Never had a fuel pressure code logged and filter was only 1 1/2 years old 10k and was clean as a whistle coz I opened it up and spread out element expecting waxing up.

Well mine was the same today. Misfiring when up to normal temp.
2005 1.9pd 80,000 miles.
Weird thing was I was at traffic lights with the van misfiring at Rickover. So switched off then restarted (20 seconds later) and no misfire and ran normal for the next few minutes before the misfire slowly returned.
Checked tonight and no codes logged...
Added millars cleaner yesterday and have double dosed tonight to see if that helps..
Filter changed at service in July last year. (Gen part)
Completely stumped by this one... Could it be sensor related in the heat and the restart resets the sensor?? :*
This has appeared quite suddenly during the last two days and is fine when cold, it appears after 15mins driving or so.

There has been abit more oil from around throttle diaphram spindle thingy lately. Theres a bunch of vac pipes on bulk head, Ive left alone but no signs of splits but could smoke test. I wasnt really directing my thoughts at them, but would cause a splutter do to its nature of shutting air off to the engine. do they govern turbo control aswell? I could try a mity vac on shut off diaphram and see if stutter comes or goes? Cam looked nice and smooth when I did loom but if profiles gone thats costly. Ex had a follower wear through due to wrong oil and ruin a camshaft on her pd golf.

Well, no misfire today. But the ambient temperature was lower...
I'm still at a loss as to what it is.
Service due in a couple of weeks so maybe that will sort it out..
Hopefully it will get me to camper jam. :*

Vans not been getting any better, so took a step back and thunk some more. Ok until it warms up? Tried disconnecting coolant temp sensor above gearbox and ?.. no better! Plugged back in and then tried unplugging fuel temp sensor. Ooh hello, it just got alot better. I know it will go into a default reading but judder on mid power almost dissapeared. It may not cure all ailments but its the cheaper end to start from. It did throw up antiskid symbol but it went away after a short drive to reset itself. Ill order a fuel temp sensor in next few days if judder doesnt return whilst sensor disconnected. I can see how that could cause problem but thats working back from sensor now I know how to induce fault. Ill try borrow scanner again and see what figures sensor gives out from cold to 90. Anyway its made it drivable again for time being. Hope it works for others out there too.

I'll give it a go...
Mine does it every day now but only when up to temp...?
Fuel temp sensor? Do you know here that is?? In the meantime I'll consult Mr Haines..

Mr Haines to the rescue...
Now disconnected so I'll see how it goes tomorrow on the way to work.
At least it's only a couple of minutes to reconnect.

Hi there, I tried a loom early on due to it being a comon issue but didnt help. No plans to sell van so I'll just chalk that one up. Sensor on pipe from fuel filter to high pressure pump on head. Dead easy to get to. Good luck in the morning.

Oh well, didnt cost anything to try. Might aswell try coolant sensor tomorrow while the loom arrives. The sensors have a range that they work within and the ecu knows what to do given this data along with other sensors making corrections along the way to maintain stable running . One of them goes bananas and it has a knock on effect and ecu trys its best but wont ignore faulty sensor coz it doesnt know its at fault. Ecu's do knacker up but mostly a sensor giving duff infomation to it is the cause.good luck out.

I didnt mean the ecu would fail due to bad sensor I meant if sensor puts readings to ecu then ecu will give instructions out. The ecu isnt broken just trying to do it job. Ecu's can fail internally but thats the difference from a ecu doing what it can from dodgey data or just being scramble inside reguardless of input. 90% of the time its a sensor or software.

Cheers mate.
I'm pretty sure mines the loom, it's like its dropped a cylinder on acceleration and a lumpy tickover.
I've taken to switching off at traffic lights as its sometimes clears the fault for a bit afterwards.
I'll let you know how I get on.
Good luck with yours..

Well, fitted a new injector loom tonight.
Popped into TPS on the way home from work ÂŁ63 not too bad really.
Only took 1/2 hour or so and some good news.. There appears to be no wear on the camshaft.. T:

Big test will be the run to work tomorrow..:*

Wish me luck..

Its been great Yorkshire show this week, which means if you live in harrogate a car is not best way to travel, so vans been parked up and been to work on bike. Ive nipped here and there on a evening and its been ok but want a good run out still. Unplugging the sensor seems to have done the trick for now? Is yours cured after loom?

#27 ·
Yep it appears so.
There's always the weekend to give yours a good run.
Have you priced up a new sensor yet? It might be cheap enough to just put one in anyway..
Good luck with yours keep us posted..

So the evil has returned to my engine. I bought a new sensor months back and put it on. Blah judder judder judder! So just unplugged new sensor and carried on but from a slight judder to struggling to use now. I plugged it back in at the weekend and drove up the road about 100meters and it felt the van would shake its self to pieces. Unplugged again and drove home crying. Managed a read and no3 injector has implausible signal and miss fire dectected. No4 has regulation range exceeded. Read solenoid response time devation
no1 14 and changed under throttle
no2 22 and changed under throttle
no3 0 and didnt change
no4 127 and didnt change

So still looking at 2 bad injectors. Could I buy a second hand set maybe higher power ones and see what gives, coding? Remap? Its never going to be a racing car so maybe just 2 standard injectors and keep it simple! Advice on brands and recons please.

Van was on deaths door last week so finally sucom to fitting 150 injectors. Christmas is now cancelled but van off like stink now! Its getting spoilt lately but it needs to be reliable so had to do it one way or other. 6 months of chugging round. Was a bit worried about setting injectors up but wasnt too bad when got it infront of me. Seals and bolts make job more expensive too.
