Just done the oil change & filter on my T5.1 180ps and it's definitely 7 Litres of oil!

Does anyone know how to change the filter without spilling a drop? I used an oil absorbent mat wrapped round the filter, but still had to clean up afterwards.

 

Whilst you're on it: Does the new T5's take full synthetic oil or Semi synthetic oil? I know the oil have to comply to minimum VW standards, but I do a lot of short distance commuting (dropping children at school and back), making optimal lubrication from a cold start important.

 

I used Fully synthetic - Quantum Longlife 3; about £33 inc vat at your local Trade Parts Specialist

 

I too have found the 2010 T5 Campervan owners manual (OM) useless. It has no information on what the owner needs to buy to maintain service. There is no specification listed. I live in Benissa Spain where there is a VW service agent BUT they advise they are not permitted to service VW VANS. The nearest is over 90Km away therefore it is important that VW provide details of engine oil capacities, gear box oils and capacities. lighting, you have to carry spare lamps by law but what to buy is not found in the OM. I have also found it dificult to find the location of components that need to be changed for a service. Nice van but not information on the 2010 T5.

We have just recently arrived in La Fustera, Benissa from the UK in our 2009 T5.
I have checked the oil whilst here and it appears to be very thin and for piece of mind I would like to change it whilst we are here, do you know anywhere locally that I could get some oil?

anyone confirm if a 102 brake 12 plate is 7 litres? ta

 

Just done mine, according to the dipstick it took 6.6 Litres of 5-30 fully synthetic. will check again tomorrow but that took it most of the way to the top.

Just changed my 2014 84 bhp oil and that was 7 litres too.

 

Just had services done on both my T5.1s, the mechanic said its a Passat engine - 140hp - but VW fitted a larger sump to increase service intervals btw its definitely 7 litres of VAG approved oil, I get mine done every 10k miles in spite of what VW say
