Heres one for the electrical Gurus
I have a 6mm cable under my passegnger seat that appears to be a feed to a fuse box
can I use it for my split charge as its permanently live
its the large black connector to the right of the picture

It's there for auxiliary (had trouble spelling that one) equipment - for extras in things like ambulances and recovery vehicles. So yes, can be used, but you need the correct blade fittings for the other side of each fuse housing, as none is installed from the factory.

Not sure about the split charge - don't you need a feed directly from the alternator for that to work properly? One of the auto electrics trade members here should be able to advise on that.

The plug you have is a fuse holder for auxiliary fitments, it is supplied directly from the 'e' box fuses below the engine battery. My opinion is that it is not adequate for feeding a split charge set-up although I have used it temporarily until I installed a decent 15sq mm cable. There are some wiring diagrams on our website at http://www.1946vw.co.uk/vwbooks/t5.htm showing how VW wire second batteries. NOTE that where the diagrams say 'Not for Camper' it means that this is not how VW wire the Cali due to its special control panel etc. The diagrams shown are for special vehicles with one or two auxiliary batteries just like most of us use in our campers.

There should be no need to dismantle the block, if it is as came from VW there will be a live busbar up the one side connected to the large red cable and some spare slots for connectors in the opposite side. All you need to do is obtain the correct connectors to fit those slots from your local van centre and cable your accessories from there fitting the appropriate fuse in the block.

Here is an example as used on my previous camper. The block that is shown in the OP's picture should mount in a frame alongside the relay mountings as shown here. That is on a T5.1.

But remember the source does not switch off with the ignition key, it's always live!
