Hi dub friends,

Well After a LOT of hand wringing and research I handed my 2010 T32 kombi (camper conversion) 102CR 2.0ltr TDI over for a remap and DPF delete.

Why?
Very slow acceleration.
Unable to maintain speed up hill on the A55 out of N Wales. (If you've driven it you will know where I mean).
Lack of any power after about 2000 rpm, not that there was much before.
An engine that felt like it had a permanent brake on it! (especially unpleasant downshifting as the engine just did not want to spool up).
Noisy! It was like a pre ignition olden-day diesel (though I didn't know that this would improve?).
Improved MPG? Not that important to me as it was ok anyway but it would be nice.
DPF problems. I have had DPF problems with a VAG diesel before and I know its not cheap to sort.

When
After 3 year warranty expired

What did I hope for?
Loads of power ha ha. But not really sure as I've read loads but never done it before.

What did I get?
This is day 1 with the new van. Yes it seems like a new van, at least a different engine in my van!
Is it faster? Maybe but I don't know or care because thats not why I had it done. I still drive no faster than 70-80 on the motorways.
From the start its quieter at all engine speeds and yes the waste gate whistle which I had never heard before makes me smile.
The engine now revs freely even under power and no longer is there a harsh deceleration from the engine that didn't want to turn on down shifting. The power doesn't run out even after 3000 RPM (and maybe more but I've not tried that far yet)
Boy does it accelerate now though and even up hill!
Improved MPG? Maybe? But its early days yet. I am used to getting 90 miles on the first 1/8th segment from full, but on the way home I got 110! No longer burning fuel just to burn soot to ash? How TF is that eco friendly?
NEVER any more DPF problems.
102bhp to 170 and 260nm to 360.

All told so far I'm very :):):)
I drive a VW camper van but it now drives like a quick car?! Don't get me wrong its no drag car, but boy does it make me smile, even more than before.

PP what a great job! Sorry I had to rush you. A:A:A:A:A:

Day 2 and some about town driving.

I still cannot get over the difference. The van is now nippy about town. It pulls hard in all gears from 1000rpm right through the rev range. No sign of any adverse effects or vibration that others have noted. I guess if you are going to spend the money then get it done right first time. Martin at Pendle did a great job and I would certainly use him again. DPF delete and re-map in 2 and 1/2 hours! A:A:

I am so tempted to get the same for my 140. Is it definite that no dpf will not cause a future mot fail? Ie for sure not luck of the draw on the test day? Really want to be 100% sure before getting it done.
No you cannot be sure because future legislation may change. But its going to be ok for quite a few years yet and in the mean time can you be sure your DPF wont need replacing at ÂŁ1200? Or any of the many sensors at ÂŁ200 a time. I just figured that if the test can ever tell that mine doesn't work any more then I will get a new filter fitted, just as I would have had to if it had failed I:. The beauty of the way Martin does it is that it is impossible to tell that its been deleted by a visual inspection. And because all the gubbins are still there you can always put a filter back in. In the mean time I have a free breathing engine that will have NO DPF problems.

At the end of the day you have to decide whats important for you and if it causes you worry then don't do it. But if you do, enjoy it before the fun police make life so boring that theres no point living anymore.

Stoo

I don't see any at all so far but I am driving lol. I think it's normal to get a bit under hard acceleration bit if its tuned right you shouldn't normally see much and Im sure Martin can explain why?

As to the Q on the exhaust its still all as it was out of the factory, and apart from disabling a system thats doomed to failure its impossible to tell that its any different

As I understand it the DPF removal is not done as a performance enhancer. Its simply a way of removing a problematic system. As far as I am aware the only benefit apart from not paying VW to replace DPF bits every 6 months is a small increase in MPG and thats because my ecu no longer pumps fuel into the exhaust to burn soot in the DPF and turn it into ash. Hardly an eco friendly system but then I am sure the eurocrats and tree huggers disagree.

Cornwallconvoy Did they ask about the DPF part of the remap? Did you tell them? Just trying to decide whether to go for the full DPF removal or not[/QUOTE said:
On another point and again this is just my understanding of it and I am sure Martin will correct me if I am wrong. I had 2 different jobs done by Pendle. A remap and a DPF removal. So the DPF removal is not part of the remap. I.E. you can have a remap without DPF removal if you wish, conversely you can have DPF removal and delete without a remap.

Do the research and make your own decision. Theres a whole hell of a lot of things that we all do that will invalidate your insurance if you get caught. Eating, drinking, smoking, talking, speeding, getting distracted, mobile phones etc etc etc. Life is at times a bit of a risk. We don't all do all those things whilst driving but we all do some of them and the list is endless. I would go so far as to say that most people with a Vdub camper van have some modifications that they consider irrelevant or are simply unaware of but could invalidate their policy, they just dont know it? I am not condoning these things but its a fact of life that they happen.

Personally I see the DPF issue as another green tax and not an insurance issue. If euro legislation can put a 3.5ltr SLK gas guzzler into a lower tax bracket than an older cars with smaller engines and lower emissions because it has some new fangled tech on it but it still only does 19 MPG then I feel ok with my decision. The world has gone potty!

Thats all I am going to say on the matter .
