VW literature - high on image low on real detail - and don't rely on dealer knowledge either. Its up to you to do your homework and research ;)

Our new van has been stuck in QC for a month now. Clearly there is a build error or a failed component. Frustrating not knowing what or when. Still we now have a completed fit out design so can get on with having the furniture made.

Well it finally arrived last week so let the games commence

Great news, please keep us posted on progress.

I still can't make my mind up whether I am too old to start another conversion on a completely new model or whether to go for a commercially produced one this time. Converting T5s & T6s has become almost routine but starting on a New Crafter is a whole new ball game!

What's the views on the headlights? is it worth paying extra for led's?
Standard headlamps are always useless. We have had Xenons and then LEDs for 20+ years and they are worth every penny.

We had to buy a car in a hurry when we decided to jump from T6 to Crafter. We wanted a Polo but to order they are 20+ weeks so we bought a tidy pre registered R Line from the dealer. Unfortunately they don't seem to spec either LEDs or Heated Screens and we really notice the lack of. I bought some expensive H7 bulbs for it that do improve the light but nothing like LEDs.

More pics coming but head over to vanwolf.blog for the full story.

Useful note for anyone specng a new van. There is an option for an intermediate stop on the the sliding door so that you can open it half or all the way. Well useful for camper conversions;

And I have a set of these Alutec Grip T wheels waiting to go on when the work is finish - colour is a good near match - will they look smart or what

It's the small details that usualky make the biggest difference when living with a vehicle :)

The intermediate door stop is a very good touch.
I also like how the sliding door top no longer encroaches on the roof like on the previous model. That I think will be a welcome design feature

It's a shame they don't offer power latching as on the T6.

Steering wheel is nice , just bought one like this myself T:
Trendiline auto came with a rubber wheel that has the buttons but I wanted leather and that comes heated.

Do you any graphics planned for the exterior?
We have some ideas but will sit down with vinyl graphics mate and see what we can do in a few weeks time.

Looks the dogs!

But I would say that as ours will look exactly the same (but with side / rear windows / Black Wheels / Fog Lights)

Keep us posted on progress A:

Hoping to do windows (Seirz S7) and rooflights next week if I can pluck up the courage.

I decided against the OE fogs as they never seem to do a lot. When I find out I can’t do without them I’ll just have to get an A bar and a pair of Oscars ?

Have you already bought the windows? I've just cut the holes for mine this weekend:D I spent a long time checking the radius of the van sides before deciding to go for the 500x1000 s4 windows which are for flat sides(not 5m radius like the s7) glad I did as they fit perfectly and cost half as much as the s7. I was worried that I'd made the wrong choice but I don't have any regrets and hope I can save you some money.

Thx Mutley. Yes I bought them a while ago and went for S7 with blinds because the van walls are curved. Also we liked the slimmer ally frame.

One thing about the S7s is that I will have to make curved backing frames. I’m off to collect my poplar ply tomorrow and have allowed enough 6mm to laminate up a frame with the curve.

How did you get on with cutting the holes - I plan to use an air saw on the skin and a small disc air cutter to chop the struts?

Yes you are correct that the walls are curved, which is why I spent so long measuring the radius in each position, if it helps for future reference from my measurements, the radius of the sliding door 135 mm from front n/s panel is 7565 mm rear is 10805 mm.
drivers side 135 mm from crease o/s panel is 8405 mm rear is 5405 mm. that is for 500 x 1000 windows.
I used a jigsaw with a metal blade to cut out the holes and a grinder to remove the extra parts of the internal rib, if I was to do it again I'd remove the rib first as the glue between the rib and panel makes the blade bind up, it was only an issue on the o/s. I've also laminated 1/4 inch ply to make the spacer frame. I also used a 24 mm hole saw to cut the corner radius. Hope that helps.
