hi mate had this problem, my issue was fans not working, and so aircon compressor getting too hot, thus clicking in and out, and pulling that fault code. open bonnet as you face it on left of rad pull off sensor plug and short out two of the three wires in different ways, you should be getting fans come on, if you have no fans, you have the problem, which in my case was replacing the fans. you may not notice this as even if the fans don't work you are very unlikely to have an overheating van.

have you had any joy with this problem as just noticed my air con relay clicking today on 2002 2.5tdi. Air con seems to be engaging and blowing cold, just sounds like the relay clicking a lot.

 

Not done it yet, tidied the garden and made the missis happy instead.

 

Was that a single job, or did you tidy the garden and THEN made the missis happy?

 

It isn't the rad fans because it does it when engine is cold.

Will swap relay today.

 

the engine doesn't have to be warm for the fans to come one, they come on as soon as the ac is on, did you try shorting the plug on the left of the radiator, the fans will turn on even if the key is in the ignition, that way you know if the relay works as you'll hear it click

 

Have you checked the a/c gas pressure?

Maybe the pressure switch is clicking because your pressure is right at the lowest limit?

 

Hi. It was gassed in April and before that was holding pressure well (I had to let the gas out to remove cylinder head).

 

Dude, its the rads, they both dead i'd say, perhaps one died before the other but they dead, if you have a probe put that on and power the fans individually direct, but im sure you wont see any movement, my fans were dead, one died before I bought the van because it never worked, the other was hanging on.

I got two new fans for a little more that you found for one, veedubmachine is who you need to call, I ordered mine delivered next day!

takes a while to fit them especially if you have aircon but its simple enough.

It's having wish bone bushes done in 2 weeks, I will get garage to do fans too.

 

Have ordered fans from veedubmachine (very quick customer service).

Both fans were £102 delivered (air con, manual).

Garage fitting them in 8 days time, along with poly bushes on lower wishbones and ARB bushes.

Taking the Caravelle to Central europe fully laden in mid August, temps could be +30C, and quite a lot of long drags, really need the cooling system in tip top condition.

Fans are wrong!!!

My t4 is a June 2003 model. Fans I ordered are until April 2003!!!

Ordered correct fans Friday, they arrived Saturday!!!!!
Fitted them, very easy.

All works fine.

I suspect one fan hasn't worked for 7 years since we got it. It had a screw in it.....
