T5 2.5 Tdi Turbo Replacement?

Hi folks,

I have recently had the camshaft/bearings and water pump replaced (common problems) on my T5 transporter, it cost me $3,300.00 AU in the end to get it all done by a European vehicle specialist.

Whilst performing this work the mechanic found that the turbo exhaust gaskets are leaking a bit and apparently the turbo is making a bit of a noise (I haven't noticed that). The vehicle has done 175000km.

My question is, do you think it is urgent that I get the turbo replaced or is it the kind of thing that can wait until I have some more funds. And is it a difficult job to perform yourself/are there special VW tools required to do it?

Cheers Ollie.

Is replacing the Turbo a "difficult' task? does it require any special VW tools.
My Father is an experienced mechanic but we don't have a vehicle lift.

Also Rake, what would be the cost of a replacement standard turbo for the 2005 T5 2.5 tdi Transporter + all required parts (gaskets etc) including shipping to QLD Australia

Cheers for the help guys,

Replacing the turbo requires access from below the vehicle.
If your Dad is a mechanic then I am sure he will be fine to do it.

I will send you the prices by private message in a moment.
Our prices are usually for exchange units so we may need you
to send in the old turbo after fitting the new one.

If the engine in a bnz/bpc then its a bit more stuff to remove but if an axd/axe then removing the rear engine mount makes it much easier :)
