hi ive done the tdi conversion and have installed a 2.5tdi cluster everything works brill, but was wandering if anyone has found a cluster that will give mpg ect that i can just slot strait in ? cheers
I was looking into this also, but I did notice that my ECU connector was missing pin 9 (for the fuel consumption signal) as well as the required wire from said signal connector. Did you have said pin on your loom?

funny thought i had just posted, any way here goes again, i have a t4 2.4 d with the electronic odometer dash, how do i find out if its CAN or not CAN it is R reg

ALAN
Usually, if the lights in the dash turn on with a wee delay, it's can-based. If they turn on immediatly it's not can-based. That's obviously not a fool-proof guideline, but it gives you a good idea.

To be sure, you'd need to either plug vagcom/supervag in and read out the partnumber for your instrument cluster or take it out and read the part number of the back. That'll tell you for certain, if it's can-based or not.

Have just removed my T4's cluster; its ident is 7D0 920 901 BX. Can anyone say if a 7D0 920 922 C cluster would work in its place? And what the significance of the N/Y against CAN (in both cases) is?
Thanks.
IF the ESP and CAN columns have been swapped (7D0 920 902 onwards - see http://www.t4-wiki.de/wiki/Kombiinstrument_(Umbau) as to why a few think they may have been swapped), then I can't see why not...

If the column haven't been swapped, I'm assuming that the clocks support K-line and CANBUS. That being said, judging from the table(s) only the 2.5TDi and some of the petrols supported CANBUS, so I'm doubting that theory. Plus even though the idea of the instruments running the two protocols isn't implausible, it's incredibly unlikely.

I reckon you'll be alright with those clocks (you've an ACV or AJT engine right?), but I guess Penbryn's the final say on these kind of matters...

thank you for the replies guys, so anyone know what part number of clocks i can put in my non can T4, tried searching ebay for B4 but loads of B5's and B6's etc, would love to know which are the "non can based" ones, and what fitment if different, than the standard fittings that came with my digital pre blue dash.
thanks again

what does CAN and non CAN mean please?
CAN is an interface protocol used for signaling from the engine. It has been introduced on later engines. 2.5TDI engines in the T4's from 2000 and on are using can to tell the instrumentation rpm, oil pressure etc, while older models use different signalling. The same goes for the pedal box (accellerator, etc.)

This essentially means, that the instrumentation out of a 2000 or newer T4 with CAN won't work in older T4's without a special CAN Simulator.

/M

does that also mean that older instruments/clocks etc wont work on a 2000+ engine?
If the engine is CAN-based and your cluster is non-CAN, then it probably won't work. I've just received a CAN-bus simulator wiring loom, which will allow me to fit a CAN-based instrument cluster to my non-CAN T4, because it converts the old signals from central electrics to can-based signals towards the cluster.

Hi bud, Im sorry to hassle you! Your thread on speedo's was awsome, i just dont understand all the part number bits....

Im trying to sort a problem of an erratic speedo. it shows roughly the correct speed up to around 30 and then goes hay wire.. everything from 40 - 140 mph... the major problem is that im clocking miles at the speed shown and not the true travelling speed!

The other gauges (Revs, Fuel & Temp) are 100%...

Its not the sender by the gear box, ive changed that twice to rule out a faulty part.

Do i need to buy a new set (if so what part numer) or can it be fixed / DIY repaired???

My van is a 2001 Y reg 1.9td. Have you got any ideas as to what it is thats wrong please??

Ive tried doing seperate threads and no one seems to be able or willing to help

Any help would be greatly appriciated and will stop me from pulling my hair out any more! :)

Thanks

Dan

Hi there, Just completed a TDi Conversion to a 1z engine from a golf into our 98 T4 and am confused when it comes to clocks. I have read and re-read your original post about types of clocks and have decided that B4 clocks are the way we will go.

my question is, will the B4 clocks plug straight into the T4 wiring or do we need a loom aswell as clocks.

also, if we do need wiring, can we use the golf wiring harness??

thanks in advance

Hi there, just finished our TDi conversion and now refining and ironing out the problems with help from this awesome forum!

at the mo we're running the standard t4 clocks but I want a rev counter (like most)

Now the question is, will the clocks from a B4 TDi fit using the existing T4 (TD) wiring or can we use the golf wiring?

Thanks in advance :ILU:

Hi

I have a 2.5 TDI Auto with these clocks: 7D0 920 703C

I was wondering if you know if this already has MFA built in if i were to get an MFA stalk?

Also do you know if there is a way to code in the cruise control active light on the rev counter? If it is even there?

Cheers

Matt

Hi

I own a 99 T4, which originally had a VR6 engine, green cluster, no CAN. I put a AXG 2002 TDI engine in it. I'm running with the VR6 cluster at the moment but I would like to install the blue cluster, which I have. My VW dealer confirm that my blue cluster 7D0 920 802G correspond to the serial no. of the engine. However, when I hook up the blue cluster, I had no backlighting, no check engine light and no turn signal light. In theory, it is suppose to be a CAN cluster. Any clue on my problem ?????

Thanks

Where is the check engine light on the dashboard for the TDI engine (AHY or ACV) that uses the cluster shown on the PIC. 2 ??? I would really appreciate if somebody could send me a picture of it on a dashboard ?

I leave in North America, and the TDI never came on this side of the ocean. It is very hard for me to figure out where and how is the check engine light is installed on a vehicule like that.

Thanks. Agent V.
